The 2016 Hyundai Elantra has been spied undergoing trials in the US. Although the exterior design of the test mule is seen covered in heavy camouflage, there is some respite in the form of clear images of the interior.
The new Elantra’s angular lines have been penned along the Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy, which is also seen in the Sonata and the Genesis. The front is similar to the new Elantra GT hatchback facelift and features elongated sweptback headlamps. The new Elantra will get a very generic executive sedan-like design for the interior. It will be equipped with Hyundai’s fourth generation infotainment system - BlueLink telematics and a new three-spoke steering wheel.
Along with the existing range of engines, reports suggest that Hyundai is also planning to add a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 177bhp and 264Nm of torque. The Elantra competes with Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Octavia and the Toyota Corolla Altis in the Indian market. The D-Segment sedan will be globally unveiled later this year, though it might take a while longer for the car to be introduced here.
