Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-Cross might be launched soon, spied testing unmasked

The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is already on sale in Europe, which is one of the products Maruti Suzuki is planning to get for the Indian market. The Indo-Japanese manufacturer started testing the vehicle in India last year and one more test mule was spied testing, this time, unmasked.

The SX4 S-Cross is a crossover based on the SX4 hatchback available globally, but was never brought to India. In some European markets, the hatchback has been replaced by the crossover. For the Indian market, the crossover will be launched with some design and mechanical changes. Unlike the global model's three-piece horizontal slat grille, the one seen testing here gets only two slats. The vehicle here also misses out on roof rails, but the production version is expected to get it in black/silver colours.

In terms of the overall dimensions, the Indian version is smaller in size as compared to its European counterpart. The interior is similar to the one in the Swift's cabin and some components are similar to the ones in the Ciaz. The cabin might come in a dual shade looking at the demand of consumers in the Indian market.

Coming to the powertrain, the Indian version of the crossover is expected to be powered by a different set of engines. The European version comes powered by 1.6-litre petrol and diesel mills, but the India-bound SX4 S-Cross might be powered by the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel and 1.4-litre petrol units. The former produces 92bhp of power, while the latter churns out 94bhp of power.

Maruti Suzuki might launch the SX4 S-Cross in India by the end of this year. Priced in the range of Rs 12-15 lakh, it will go up against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and even the Mahindra XUV 500 in the highly competitive mid-size crossover segment in our country.
