2015 Mahindra XUV 500 spied in a disguised avatar

Mahindra's XUV 500 was spied testing in a disguised avatar in South India. The carmaker is planning to bring in an update to their flagship model and also raise the luxury quotient of the SUV.

The camouflaged test mule spotted on the outskirts of Chennai, hints at the changes to the fascia. The front bumper is new, houses differently shaped fog lamps and features a skid plate. The grille is expected to be embellished in chrome just like the new Scorpio. The headlamp cluster might also be tweaked to house the new DRLs. Similar changes will be seen at the back with the incorporation of LEDs in the tail lamp and stop light.

Mahindra is expected to update the cabin of the XUV 500 apart from the cosmetic changes. To up the luxury and plush factor, the company will use better quality materials in the interior and equip the car with the latest features and technologies like that of the new Scorpio.

There might not be many mechanical changes to this facelifted XUV 500. It is expected to be powered by the same 140bhp, 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine seen under the hood of the vehicle on sale. However, there are speculations that Mahindra might bring in a new petrol engine that they are developing. There are speculations that the six-speed automatic gearbox from the SsangYong Tivoli compact SUV might be introduced to the XUV 500.

This update to the Mahindra XUV 500 will bring in a change to the SUV that has been doing well in India. With the regular appearance of the test mules, we think that the company is finalising the production version and it might be launched for the Indian market soon.
