British sports car maker Caterham has introduced three new additions to its existing range of track-focused vehicles. Called the Seven 270, 360 and 480, these new models are now on sale in the UK to represent five core models of the brand.
These new additional models will be positioned between the entry-level Seven 160 and the supercharged 620R, the most powerful production Seven ever built. While the Seven 160 represents bare basics motoring with its 3-cylinder Suzuki engine and live-axle rear suspension, the new 270 model gets a Ford-derived 1.6-litre four cylinder engine with variable-valve timing.
Sitting in the middle of the range is the Seven 360, which runs the same 2-litre Ford Duratec power unit as Caterham’s flagship R300 race car. Meanwhile, the new flagship model comes in the form of the Seven 420, which features a dry sump and is also powered by the 2.0 Ford Duratec engine, although benefitting from a few modifications which offer 210bhp of power. At the top of the range is the mighty 620R, which also runs a finely-tuned 2.0 Ford Duratec that pumps out 310bhp and reaches 0-100kmph in 2.8 seconds.
Like all Sevens, the three new models adhere to Caterham’s mantra of delivering accessible fun through the traditional minimalistic, lightweight approach to sports car engineering.
