ARAI to update regulations for recalls

Most of us know that the Automotive Research Association of India is a major organisation that plays a vital role in the Indian automotive business. Without their approval, it is quite difficult to conduct business in India.

Over the last few months, since the time the new government has taken charge, ARAI is upgrading and updating some of its facilities and regulations, respectively. A few days ago we reported about ARAI setting up a crash test facility at Chakan. This facility is expected to be world class and match the international crash test facilities.

ARAI is also in the process of setting up new regulations and norms for vehicle recalls in the country. Over the last two years, India has seen quite a number of recalls from manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Hyundai and Tata. The reason for recall ranges from a small software upgrade to change of fuel pump and this is done to make sure the customer satisfaction level stays high. However, the current action policies are not fool proof like identifying issues and the execution of such recalls. ARAI plans to fix this by updating their recall policies for the automobile manufacturers.

We welcome this move by ARAI because it won’t just benefit the consumers but also manufacturers by removing the void that is currently present in the recall business.
