270kmph Honda Civic Type R teased ahead of Geneva Motor Show debut

Honda is in for a big shout at this year’s Geneva Motor Show as the brand is set to unveil a host of new and refreshed models including the debut of the all-new production-spec Civic Type R hot hatch. Hot from its global debut in Detroit, the new NSX will also mark its arrival in Geneva.  The petrol electric sports car will make its European debut in Switzerland, 25 years after the debut of the original NSX.

Coming back to the Civic Type R, the car apparently benefits from extensive aerodynamic development, giving it high levels of downforce and solid high speed stability. The aerodynamic performance will also help make the most of the new 2-litre, direct injection turbo VTEC engine. While Honda is still yet to release the power output of this new engine the brand has officially revealed that the new Civic Type R will have a top speed of 270kmph, the highest in any front-wheel drive hot hatch.

Improving the car’s high speed manner is a completely flat underbody which aids airflow under the vehicle and combines with a rear diffuser to optimize downforce. A big rear wing further helps in keeping the vehicle planted to the road. A wide front splitter and deep side skirts also manage airflow and reduce lift, while the front bumper has been shaped specifically to inhibit air turbulence around the front wheels, cutting drag and improving overall stability.

Honda has said that the Civic Type R which is to be unveiled at Geneva Motor Show will be finished in Championship White – a color shared with successive generations of the iconic Type R range of cars.
