Ford Ka-based next-gen Figo spied testing in India for the first time

The next-generation Ford Figo has been spotted testing in Pune, making its first appearance in India. The Ka concept-based hatchback has been sighted testing several times in Brasil before it was recently showcased at the Sao Paulo Motor Show 2014.

The new generation Ford Figo has borrowed design cues from the that was unveiled at the Auto Expo at the start of this year. The vehicle on test seems to be the same car sold in Brasil as the Ford Ka. While the company might make a few cosmetic changes for the Indian market, most of the components that the Ka boasts of are expected to be retained in this car. The Aston-Martinish grille that the carmaker seems to be carrying over to all its products, will be seen on this car as well. The Ford EcoSport has it and so does the recently launched Fiesta facelift. The headlamps and tail lights have the same design from the concept car, though the LEDs will be given a miss.

Coming to the powertrain, there are speculations that Ford might bring in new changes with the introduction of the 1.5-litre DV5 turbo-diesel engine and a 999cc petrol engine derived from the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. The new petrol mill might churn out 80bhp of power; however, to keep the costs down for emerging markets like India, Ford might do away with the turbocharger. Apart from this petrol model, the 1.2-litre mill will also be offered.

According to reports the production of the new Figo will start in April 2015 after which the manufacturer might launch the revised car eventually replacing the vehicle sold now in the Indian market. The current test vehicle seems to have visited the ARAI facility in Pune and after the various tests; Ford will manufacture the car at their Sanand plant in Gujarat from next year.
