All-wheel drive Jaguar F-Type may debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show

Jaguar’s F-Type range will soon expand with a new all-wheel drive model. The car has been spotted on test quite a few times already and is expected to make its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year.

When launched, the new all-wheel drive model will join the existing F-Type fleet which includes the convertible, the coupe and the R coupe. The addition of the all-wheel drive model will allow the F-Type to rival the likes of Audi R8 and the Porsche 911 Carrera 4.

In these recent spy shots by Car Magazine, the prototype model is seen with a prominent bulge in the bonnet. Now this is something which is not seen on the current F-Type and in here, the bulge presumably is needed only for one purpose and that is to accommodate the extra driveshafts and differentials for the front wheels.

The all-wheel drive F-Type is expected to make its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2014, before going on sale in the UK sometime early next year. With all-wheel drive assistance, the F-Type will benefit hugely from all-weather performance, much like the existing all-wheel drive sports cars such as the R8 and the Carrera 4S. Although putting all-wheel drive hardware will add to the overall weight of the car, superior traction off the line will ensure quicker acceleration times.

The production and sales for the all-wheel drive F-Type is likely to be limited to cold-weather markets like North America and Russia. It is highly unlikely, then, for Jaguar to bring the all-wheel drive F-Type to India through the CBU route.
