2016 Jaguar XF spied at the Nurburgring

The upcoming generation of the Jaguar XF has been spied on the world’s most arduous race track – the Nurburgring. The mid-size luxury sedan is set to be larger than ever before and with an all-aluminium body shell.   

The next generation XF, in fact, is based on Jaguar’s new IQ [AL] all-aluminium architecture that will debut on the XE. The latter has already made its public debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Additionally, this new platform will also form the basis for the British carmaker’s new SUV which is due in 2016.

Thanks to the all-aluminium construction, the upcoming-generation XF will weigh significantly less than the current XF, up to 100 kilograms lighter if we go by the report.  As for the engines, the car will be powered by a range of 2-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines from Jaguar’s new Ingenium engine family. The hot XFR will continue to use the 5-litre supercharged V8 engine with over 500bhp on tap.  

The original XF replaced the ageing S-Type when it was launched in 2007. Since then, the mid-size luxury sedan has done rather well for Jaguar with its strong sales performance in all the markets it’s being sold in. With the second generation model due in 2016, the British automaker is anticipating an even stronger result in the future. Going with the current trend of green motoring, also expect a hybrid version of the next XF, later in the car’s lifecycle.
