Porsche announces second-generation 911 Carrera GTS

For Porsche, the letters ‘GTS’ has stood for ‘Gran Turismo Sport’ since the arrival of the 904 Carrera GTS in the 1960s. With the latest 911 GTS, the German sportscar maker is extending the GTS principle once more to the 991 generation 911 Carrera.  

Like the Cayenne GTS, the Panamera GTS and Boxster and Cayman GTS models currently sold, the 911 GTS offers enhanced driving performance and superior dynamics compared to the standard models of the given vehicles.  

The new 911 Carrera GTS will be available in four different versions – a coupe and a cabriolet, offered with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Under the rear engine lid lies a flat-six powerhouse, tuned to develop 430bhp of power, 30bhp more than the Carrera S. This is combined with the Sport Chrono package offering dynamic engine mounts, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damper system which lowers the car's ride height by 10 millimetres.

When paired with Porsche’s super quick PDK double-clutch gearbox, the 911 Carrera GTS can sprint from zero to 100 kmph in four seconds flat. With the standard 7-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, the top speed is nearly 320kmph.

Design wise, the 911 GTS differentiates itself from the other Carrera models with its wide-flared rear wheel arches and a wider track. Also standard are 20-inch alloy wheels with centre-lock mechanism, painted in matte black finish. Further accentuating the looks is the air intake grille on the rear engine lid featuring bespoke GTS black trim strips and black chrome-plated exhaust tailpipes

With the addition of the new GTS model, the 911 Carrera range now consists of 12 different models at three power levels, as coupes and cabriolets, and in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configuration.
