The 2015 Ford C-MAX has been unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. It gets a whole host cosmetic updates, mechanical updates and now also comes in a Grand version. It follows in the footsteps of its larger sibling the S-MAX in terms of the updates.
The C-MAX and C-MAX Grand now get the American automaker’s new design Aston Martin-esque grille as well as an updated design for the headlights. The side profile now includes heavily flared wheel arches and new alloy wheels. At the rear the C-MAX and C-MAX Grand continue with the wrap around tail lamp design from the previous models but they are now smaller and are complemented by a slightly modified bumper.
Inside, Ford has updated the C-MAX and C-MAX Grand with the SYNC2 infotainment system. It comes with an 8-inch touch screen doing away with the need for a lot of buttons from the older SYNC system. It has also updated the cabin in terms of better plastics, heated steering wheel, door sill scuff plates and mounting points for a cargo net in the second row of seats. Ford also claims to have worked on the sound insulation to reduce engine noise in the cabin.
One of the newer features on the duo is the MyKey technology which allows owners to program inputs like restricted top speed and volume control. The higher spec variants also get bi-Xenon lamps, active park assist, cross traffic alert and active braking.
On the mechanical front, the C-MAX and C-MAX Grand are being offered with an updated version of the 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine that now produces 120bhp. Also on offer is the 2.0-litre TDCi that is being offered in 138bhp and 161bhp states of tune. On the petrol front the C-MAX and C-MAX Grand are being offered with the 1.5-litre four-pot petrol mill as well as the 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine.
The C-MAX Grand is a more probable candidate for the Indian market as it is similar to the Toyota Innova in terms of size. However, its entry into the sub-continent is likely to be considered only after Ford has launched the Fiesta based B-MAX MPV.
