Lewis Hamilton beat his team mate Nico Rosberg to take the pole position for the 2014 Italian Grand Prix, grabbing yet another one-two start for the Mercedes GP team. The British driver managed to clock 1.24.109 in the Q3 - 0.274 second faster than Rosberg, notching up straight fifth pole position.
Bottas and Massa took third and fourth respective for Willams, once again proving that they are best-of-the-rest this season. McLaren is finally starting to show some pace locking out the third row with Magnussen taking fifth ahead of Jenson Button. Fernando Alonso will start at a disappointing seventh for the home team ahead of Vettel and Riccardio in Red Bull. Sergio Perez will start at P10 in first of the Force Indias.
Kimi Raikkonen failed to reach top-ten and will start at P11, after Daniil Kvyat faced 10-place grid penalty and dropped to P21. His partner, Vergne will now start at P12 in the second Toro Rosso. Hulkernberg will now take P13, ahead of the two Saubers of Sutil and Gutierrez. Neither of the Lotus cars managed to clear Q1 and join Caterham and Marussia at the back of the field.
Mercedes has reprimanded both its drivers for their adventure at the Belgian GP and it will be interesting to see the duo battle it out for the championship without making it ugly.
