The new Tata Zest is scheduled to launch next month, and production of the compact sedan has already commenced at the Tata-Fiat Ranjangoan manufacturing facility. Images of the roll out ceremony have made their way to the web, wherein the Zest is being celebrated by the Tata Motors employees at the facility.
The new Zest is based on a revised version of the X1 platform which underpins the Manza and the Vista. Developed using inputs from Tata’s design studios in Pune, Coventry in the UK and Turin in Italy; the Zest marks a whole new chapter for Tata Motors in terms of design and technology. The car looks thoroughly modern and features quite a few segment-first features.
When launched next month, the Zest will be available with two engine options - 1.3-litre diesel and the new Revortron 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. While the 5-speed manual gearbox will be offered in both the petrol and diesel variants, the revolutionary AMT gearbox will be sold only with the diesel version.
After losing quite a bit of market share to other car manufacturers in the last couple of years, Tata Motors is looking to regain some of the lost momentum with the new Zest. The company even has the new Bolt hatchback lineup for launch. The latter, which is in its final stages of development, will be seen competing against other premium hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagen Polo and the upcoming Honda Jazz. Coming back to the Zest, the compact sedan is scheduled to launch next month. It will compete with other sub-four-metre sedans including the new Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Honda Amaze.
