Honda India recalls Amaze and Brio

Honda India has recalled 15,623 units of the Brio and 15,603 units of the Amaze manufactured between 28 February 2013 and 16 January 2014. The recall has to do with the brake proportioning valve, which may have been assembled incorrectly. Since ABS systems don't require a proportioning valve, the recall doesn't affect any Amazes or Brios with ABS. 

The brake system will work even with a faulty proportioning valve; all the valve does is redistribute braking force if required. Honda will therefore contact all the relevant owners in a phased manner and inspect the valves. If necessary, a replacement will be installed free of cost. If you are an Amaze or Brio owner and don't have ABS on your car, you can visit the company's website (www.hondacarindia.com) and via your VIN, can find out if your car is part of the recall. 

Recalls are usually viewed as a bad thing, but when one is assembling a vehicle with so many moving parts, the laws of chance dictate that errors are bound to happen. The voluntary recall policy set by SIAM in 2012 was a step in the right direction, and encouraged manufacturers in India to nip possible problems in the bud. As for the Honda recall, it is just another reason why you should opt for a car with ABS!
