Hyundai Xcent bags 11,000 bookings within 30 days of launch

Hyundai India has received a very positive response from potential buyers for their latest offering, the Xcent. The brand has officially revealed that it has received over 100,000 enquires and 11,000 bookings for the compact sedan. What’s even more impressive is that they have hit the aforesaid numbers within 30 days of launch in March 2014.

Loosely based on the Grand i10 hatchback, the Xcent is quite an important product for Hyundai India given that it competes in the ever-growing compact sedan segment. Hyundai even goes on to say that the Xcent has generated quite a bit of interest amidst the young families in metros as well as in Tier II cities.

Launched with a base price of Rs 4.66 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Xcent is available in three petrol and three diesel trim levels including the Base, S and SX with two transmission options. Powering the car is the familiar 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol engine retuned to produce 81 bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. The talking point, however, is the 1.1-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine producing 71bhp and 160Nm of torque. This new 3-cylinder unit is a variation of the existing 1.4-litre CRDi engine that is found in the i20.

Hyundai has taken its time getting into the compact sedan segment, making sure it doesn’t lag in any department and looking at the car and kind of sales numbers it has garnered up till now, we can say that the effort seems to have paid off.
