2015 Toyota Camry to debut at New York Auto Show

Toyota has officially confirmed that the 2015 Camry will be unveiled at 2014 New York Auto Show (NYAS) on April 16. Being an updated version of the current car, most of the changes are expected to be cosmetic with Toyota claiming that the new Camry will feature a ‘more emotional and impactful design.’ 

Curt McAllister, Toyota product news manager, said, "On April 16 at the New York International Auto Show, we will make an important announcement about America's best-selling car, the Toyota Camry."

Toyota Camry was last revamped as a 2012 model and since then, this is the first major update for the D+ Segment sedan. The Camry, to be unveiled at the NYAS, will be an American model and will be cosmetically different to the European-spec model, which will eventually end up in India. 

Toyota has done a really good job with the new Corolla Altis, which despite being a facelift, looks radically different than the previous car. Looking at their statements, we expect Toyota to ditch the conservative styling of the current Camry to come up with a more exciting car. Car manufacturers are increasingly adopting a common design language for their cars and the same might be seen with the new Toyota. 

In terms of mechanicals, we do not expect Toyota to deviate from their current engine lineup for the Camry. In India, the Camry is available with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder producing 179bhp and 233Nm of torque and a hybrid with the same engine producing 202bhp and 270Nm of torque. While its rivals are available with diesel engines, the lack of one in Camry’s lineup has led to dismal sales figures in the Indian market and we hope Toyota rectifies this drawback with the new Camry.

Globally, the Camry has been the segment leader for more than a decade, though its position has been threatened by the onslaught of newcomers. With the new Camry, Toyota will look to reinforce its stronghold in the segment against the likes of the Nissan Altima, Honda Accord, Ford Fusion and the 2015 Chrysler 200.
