Mahindra Scorpio facelift spotted again

Mahindra seems to be extensively testing a facelifted version of its Scorpio SUV. Sightings of the test vehicle have become an everyday affair and the latest spyshots of the SUV were taken somewhere in Tamil Nadu and this time too, the car sported heavy camouflage. The black bumpers and lack of alloy wheels indicate that the mule was a base variant. 

The facelifted Scorpio retains the platform as well as the overall shape and the cosmetic upgrades have been influenced by Mahindra group’s other cars. The headlamps have been updated and sport a sleeker shape, much like those of the Ssangyong Rodius. The front grille has also been revised with the bumpers featuring a different design for the air dams. 

The mirrors bear a dual-tone design and have increased in size. The Christmas tree arrangement for the tail lamp assembly will be retained, though the reflectors might be replaced with LEDs. A complete makeover is expected for the interiors of the facelift, which will derive inspiration from the XUV500. The dashboard will be restyled and will integrate a touchscreen infotainment system, while the steering wheel will be borrowed from the XUV500.

The facelifted Scorpio will continue to employ the 2.2-litre mHawk and the 2.5-litre m2DiCR units. While the former produces 120bhp and 290Nm of torque, the latter one produces 75bhp and 200Nm of torque. It will be offered in a combination of two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations with six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox. 

The Scorpio continues to be one of the best-selling models of the Pune-based manufacturer, despite being a decade old and Mahindra has adopted a ‘why fix it, when it ain’t broken’ strategy with this facelift. Besides the Scorpio, Mahindra also has a compact SUV, which was co-developed with Ssangyong, in the pipeline to rival the likes of Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.
