Datsun GO, GO+ to be showcased at the Auto Expo

The Datsun brand was defunct in 1986 worldwide, but its second birth took place in India in July, 2013. One of the oldest brands to have survived World War II, the name is still not well known in India. The brand’s mission is clear as dictated by its parent company Nissan; to provide affordable motoring to emerging markets.

Datsun will begin its Indian journey with the GO hatchback which will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Chennai. The GO is like old wine in a new bottle, it’s an old generation Nissan Micra. The car gets the same engine as the ongoing Nissan Micra in India and wears a simple, not-so modern design to appeal to all tastes. The GO will be launched globally at the Auto Expo and the company will showcase all the colours on offer for it at the biennial Auto Show. The GO will be priced between Rs 3 – Rs 4 lakh.

The Datsun GO+ will also be unveiled for the first time in India, it be sold in India and other markets among the MPV-crazy Indonesians. The GO+ is an MPV for the global markets and it will be cheaper than most of its rivals like the Maruti Ertiga and the Honda Mobilio. It might be priced closer to the Chevrolet Enjoy. The MPV will continue the company’s philosophy of affordable. It will feature a 1.2-litre diesel engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.

India seems to be the choice for Datsun when it comes to anything important, the company will also display the global i2 concept at the Auto Expo. Earlier this month the company teased the pictures of the concept which lead to speculations and a few confirmations as well. Although it was just a finesse sketch, the concept can be seen in the flesh at the Datsun stall.
