Mahindra Thar may get essential updates

The Mahindra Thar may soon get some essential updates to its features based on customer feedback. The Thar which is often perceived as a cult model launched its CRDe variant is India towards the end of 2010 and is currently on sale for Rs 7.22 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The updates may include the addition of a new cross bar between the A and B pillar in an effort to improve rigidity. The front axle may also give away the auto locking hubs for a more reliable fixed flange mechanism.

There may be possible changes to the interior like upgrading the air-con switches and improving the canopy removing mechanism. The canopy currently uses a set of pins to attach them to the frame which may be replaced by stronger screws. The rear seats are also likely to be lowered by to improve rear headroom which has been a common complaint among current customers.

A price hike is unlikely for these updates which can also be retro fitted to the existing models. The Thar currently sells three models in India, with the top end providing 4WD mode and air conditioning. There is no official word on the upgrades or on retrofitting the possible changes, but it is likely to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
