Maruti Suzuki is likely to axe production of the Estilo hatchback due to lack of demand and consequently low sales numbers. The car was introduced to the Indian market in 2007 as a replacement for the legendary Zen hatchback and is slightly toned down version of now discontinued JDM spec Suzuki MR Wagon.
The Estilo has managed to have some volumes but struggled to even come close to its other small car siblings like the 800, WagonR and the A-Star. Maruti Suzuki even gave the car a major facelift in 2010 and plonked the 1.0-litre K-Series engine in placed of the previous 1.1-litre petrol mill that powered the pre-facelift version.
Industry numbers reveal that Maruti Suzuki seems perfectly justified in its decision to stop the model as it has just managed to average 1000+ units just once since February, something that is very odd for an affordable Maruti Suzuki models. Reports suggest that the car being offered with discounts in the range of Rs 35, 000 to Rs 50, 000 in a bid to boost its numbers and empty its inventory of unsold stock.
We have already reported previously that Suzuki is expected to launch a new small car that will replace the A-Star, the Ritz and now maybe even the Estilo.
