The ultimate open top Bugatti is set to be part of the history lesson planned by Bugatti to tell the tale of its illustrious history. Bugatti has announced plans to launch six ultra-exclusive special editions based on its Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. Dubbed the ‘Les Légendes de Bugatti’ (Bugatti Legends), the edition is an attempt to link the brand’s past to the present.
The first episode of the series is named after Bugatti’s two-time Le Mans winning race driver, Jean-Pierre Wimille. The car will make its debut at this year’s California Pebble Beach scheduled for the beginning of August. Jean-Pierre Wimille won the 1937 and the 1939 Le Mans on the iconic 57 series Tank covered in racing blue finish reminiscent of French Racing cars of the era.
This car has been perceived as an inspiration for this limited edition and hence, will come in blue clear-coated carbon fibre and a light Wimille Blue paint colour. Mechanical bits remain unchanged, which means the starlet will inherit the quad-turbocharged 8.0-litre W-16 engine that churns out a rather ‘modest ‘ output figure of 1,200PS power and 1498Nm of torque.
We are not huge fans of cosmetically modified limited edition. But then again, there are exceptions to every rule. In this case, it is the fact the stock car by itself holds a handsome world record for the fastest drop-top in the world. This limited edition is confined to just three examples all of which have been accounted for. The next five episodes of the series will be unveiled over the next 12 months and will feature other chapters from Bugatti’s success story.
