Nissan based Renault Pulse and Scala may be recalled

Nissan has announced a recall for the Micra hatchback and the Sunny sedan last week to replace faulty master brake cylinder. We think that the Renault Pulse and Scala which are India specific models with only cosmetic changes over the Japanese counterparts may also see a recall in the coming weeks.

The Japanese car maker intends to replace master brake cylinder on 22,188 units manufactured and sold in India during June 2012 and March 2013. Both the Pulse and Scala share majority of their components with the Micra and Sunny respectively and were in production during this period, making them susceptible to recall.

The official statement from Nissan said, “Nissan is conducting a voluntary recall campaign on approximately 67,089 Micra (K13) and Sunny (N17) vehicles in Africa, Asia, Europe, India, Latin America & Caribbean and Middle East markets to replace the master brake cylinder.

Nissan plans to begin notifying customers in May. Nissan retailers will replace the master brake cylinder at no cost to the customer.  Nissan is committed to a high level of customer safety, service and satisfaction and is working with its dealers to promptly address this issue.”

We are waiting for an official word from Renault to find out if the recall is applicable to their models and if yes, how and when will they proceed to rectify issue. 

Edit: Renault India has issued an official statement saying that it is recalling 2836 units of the Pulse and 4180 units of the Scala manufactured between June 2012 and March 2013 to replace the brake master cylinder. It has also said that it will individually contact customers to notify them of the recall.
