Hi from this year I started taking parts in car rallies. In march I took part in the Desert Strom 2008 it was my first rally, I prepaired my car with whatever knowledge I have, get the suspension strengthened, fitted the under body plates for engine and fuel tank protection, I managed to complete the rally in 10th place. In april I took part SJOBA SUB HIMALIYAN RALLY, during this rally I expected a lot from my car as the terrain was hilly all through the days, but car was not performing upto my expectations. We still managed to finish in 3rd place.

I started looking out for perfomance and power enhancment techniques for engines, I came to know about the K&N Filters and performance free flow exhausts, Please explain me what it is.

If someone can help me by telling what type of K&N filters can be fitted in 1999 maruti esteem. It would be a great help if someone can tell me the part number for k&N Filter.

Manish kudos to what you have achieved. As to enhancing the performance of the car the sky is the limit.

Air filters are the 'lungs' of your car and if you have a bigger lungs the better. Here is where after market filters come in.There are basically two types, original replacement and custom.
in the replacement filters u swap the paper filter from the air box and put in a similar shaped filter but with greater surface area and flow.
As the performance of the engine depends on 'cold' air the father the filter is from the engine the better it will perform. Here is where  custom air intakes and conical filter come into play. They will bump power by about 2-3 bhp but are costly.
Free flow exhaust is a different thing altogether and are relatively more expensive than filters, but they give a power hike of 5-8 bhp.

If someone is already using it then please share your experiences.

Hi,

I got a K&N filter fitted to my Swift during my second service - I got it from my dealer itself - costed me around 4500 bucks.

You get them at Maruti dealers - they rather recommend it and the warranty is also not void.

Regards,

K Prasad

@KVSK, please explain the difference in the performance you have since observed due to installation of K&N filter. Thanks (& welcome back).
