Hi,

I bought my new car Hyundai i10 (1.2L Sportz) from Hyundai Motor Plaza on 23rd Oct 08. After covering 1200 KM on 12th of Nov 08 I had given the car for first service, after taking home the car from service I started getting the problem in oil indicator. Within in a week I gone to the service station again and they asked me to leave the car for a day to check. Next day morning they told me that we need to change some oil switch and everything will be all right and then on the same day evening day they told that after changing the switch also problem still there and they need to change the whole engine of the car.

So with in a month they are going to change the whole engine of my car. I want to know that can I ask them for replacement (new car)? As I think factory fitted engine and fitting an engine in a workshop makes a lots of difference. Also how can I make sure that its a new engine only ?

Please help me out, it’s very important. Please.

Thats astonishing! Sorry to hear about your car.

What has been reported as the problem to effect a complete engine change?Any details available?

As there is only an issue with the engine the scope of a replacement car would be unlikely/tiresome and a lot of effort.

Ask for a replacement car in the interim period when your car is out of action(a courtesy car)-the replacement engine number can be used to generate an invoice regarding the date of manufacture of the same.

Keep posting with the details.

They told that oil pressure level in the engine is high and don't want to open the engine, thats the reason they are changing the whole engine.

They have given me an i10 on the temporary bases.

Well they must have thought the switch to be defective when it lit up and on examining they would have found that the switch was correct and that the engine oil pressure was abnormally high.

This could be a problem with the oil lines in the head and cylinder body(most probably a manufacturing defect)-good luck and its noteworthy on Hyundai's part to take a proactive approach.

Thank you very much for the reply's Thomas.

Is that fine to replace the whole engine in the workshop? How can be sure that engine fittend in the car is the new one only?

There wont be any problem in replacing the engine in the workshop-the only major difference from the factory and the workshop is the mode of installation.

In the factory the engine is lifted up from below the engine bay of the car(which is on a conveyor belt) and in the workshop the engine will be lowered into the engine bay.

The details of the new engine can be ascertained from the engine number printed on the new engine as explained in post #2

The workshop engineer is telling me that the new engine number will be same as the old engine number, so there will not be any problem or we don’t have to make any changes in the RC.

He told me that they sent the old engine number and other details through email and and in the factory they will punch the same number.

Is that true, engine number can be same?

Quite possible-at least its a fresh engine in that case.
