Toyota had previously revealed shots of the facelifted Land Cruiser Prado SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show and today, we have news that TKM is working towards an India launch of the vehicle soon. The Prado is available here and is brought to India via the CBU route.
The facelifted Prado SUV entered Saudi Arabian markets last month and sources have told IAB the first couple of units of the new Prado are already in India. Sources in dealerships inform them that TKM will conduct product training for sales and service staff anytime now.
The Indian market had seen the Toyota Prado back in December 2009 and now after a long due makeover will be releasing it with subtle changes as a facelift. To begin with Toyota has given the Prado a prominent and aggressive grille along with sharper headlamps and a new bumper. The rear design is very similar to the current model bar the number plate enclosure and colour scheme on the tail light cluster. The interior modifications are even subtler and include faux wood panelling and a slightly redesigned instrument console.
The engine though similar in displacement to the existing 3.0-litre oil burner will now produce 192PS power and 420Nm torque. The Power transmission will be performed by to a five-speed automatic gearbox and will be fed to all four wheels.
In India, the Prado currently sells for Rs 84.87 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and it is this hefty price tag which has been its undoing and as a result it sells in small numbers here. With the facelift, we can expect the brand to hike the prices up by Rs one lakh at the least.
