LPG for Swift

Hi Friends.

After reading so many threads on LPG/CNG. I finally thought this thread seems nice to discuss my question. I have recently purchased a Swift Petrol. Its giving me an average of around 11-12 in New Delhi with AC on 80-90%.

I wanted to put CNG as I already had CNG on my esteem earlier which I sold off recently. And I never had any problems as such. And with the new advanced kits with TAP and LAMDA, CNG kits surely are the best option for alternate fuel right now. However, I dont want to compromise with the boot space, so I want to consider LPG as an option. Since there are several compact cylinders available in LPG which can be fitted in the Stepney Space.

I want to know from LPG users, whats the average cost per litre on LPG. It there a considerable loss of power? Is LPG easily available? Do you think it is worth fitting a LPG kit at all, since i have read that there's an approximate saving of just 10-15% as compared to Petrol. So I am a bit skeptical as of now. The only plus point which i find in LPG is the compact filling cylinders.

Please advice.

LPG isn't very economical (true).  Go for LPG only if your run is substantially high (else you will not stand to benefit ultimately).  Prefer CNG - running-cost, as you may have experienced, is around 30-35% as compared to that on Petrol.

Power-loss in LPG is felt less than it is felt in CNG.  In either case, the performance will on match with that on Petrol - though it may not practically matter much in normal driving conditions/style.

If you had CNG fitted car i think there is no point in telling you about the pros and cons. You know it
As far as LPG is concerned, i will say:
1. It is not economical when compared with CNG. Running cost would be around 2.0 Rs/km
2. LPG costs around Rs 26.78/ltr
3. Driving experience is far better than CNG. You can feel the power. Car is responsive.
4. If you go for compact cylinder you will end up having somewhere arund 20-22ltr of LPG in one go and considering FE of 12Km/ltr, max you will do 250kms in one filling.
5. There are only 9 filling station across Delhi/NCR, however you don't have to wait in Queues . There is one in Janak Puri, Pitam Pura [near Ma Kali mandir] , Moti Bagh [Opp Gurudwara Shaib]

I hope this will help you in taking right decision.

Thank you so much Pritpal for the information.

An average of 12 on LPG is indeed better than what i thought. Its currently giving me around 12 on petrol. However it should increase since the 1st service is still due.

How much would a LPG kit with 20-22 litre compact cylinder cost. Not standing in the line is a sure relief. And if it costs me around Rs. 2 per km, i think ill go ahead with it. It'll be as good as diesel.

Thanks

Cost of LPG kit should be somewhere around 20K [may be lesser]. In addition to this you will have to bear cost of putting LPG as alternate fuel on RC [around 3-4k].

As you have brand new car, it would be good to check if putting LPG kit will not void any of the warranty being offered on your car. Do get all the details from your car vendor prior going for LPG kit.

Retrofitment will void the warranty.  Some get the retrofitment after 6-9 months with a thought-process that manufacturing defect, if any, would have surfaced by then.  Also because the retrofitters offer some warranty.

Hi Saurabh. i had visited autogas india at thier gurgaon branch abt lovato cng kit. they told me that open loop kit with inbuilt emulator is for Rs. 26.5K and the closed loop kit is for Rs. 36.5K. When i asked the guy there abt the segregrated prices of lambda and advancer then he mixed the things and said that lovato lambda is for rs. 10K and it has inbuilt advancer and as an offer they are giving additional map advancer for free. But when i checked to one another agency they told me that lovato doesnt make advancer. also the other agency guy said to me that lovato lambda doesnt contain advancer in itself and costs only 4K. I m now bit confused about this map advancer thing and even i dounbt that the lanbda system is having inbuilt advancer. I would be greatful to you guys if you guys could help me out of this confusion.

Also do you have any idea of thier prices.

Regards

Amit
