How to decode Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)?

i have recently booked verna xxi (ABS) and dealer called me saying your car is here and process loan for delivery. But when i saw the car in stock yard, found that car is not ABS. Now after lots of stuff, dealer agreed it's not ABS and assured me to new car with ABS.

After all this scenario, i hardly believe dealer and looking for way to decode the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) for Hyundai. Can you please provide me VIN decoding?  will VIN number tell me whether car is ABS or not?

Though there is a standard for VINs, they still vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and country to country. Car's body-type/version is mentioned in VIN but I am not sure whether ABS will be mentioned in VIN because it's an optional feature. This Wikipedia article and this pdf file may help you a bit.

Every company has its different way to decode a VIN

One number/ digit in VIN shows year of mfg

one number/ digit in VIN shows month of mfg.

It is specified in shop manual of car

Or you can take help of dealer service perosn to decode it

I visited website as mentioned by Moderator. But I couldn't find out month of manufacture. For example. If Vehicle Identification Number/ Chassis Number is:

MAT6114319PE42660

then:

MA - India   T- Tata motors  611431 - Dont know    9- The Year 2009   P- Pune Plant of Tata

E42660 - No idea.

I would appreciate if anyone let me know Month of Manufacture in the above Vehicle Identification Number.

I am going to take delivery of my Vista Quadrajet Aura very soon. So it will surely help me to identify the month of manufacture.
