I have a budget of Rs. 2.35L. I want to buy a car pref. Sentro or wegnoR.

1) I want to go for used or new car (as for new cars the prices will go down in Dec. and I

have to add some extra money). Which is the better deal for me used car or new car? and how?

2) Is it good to buy used cars from true value or mahindraa first choice?

3) Do the price of used cars also falls in Dec.?

Introduction of permanent user names in the community

Dear guys,

Today (i.e. 17th Nov 2009) onwards, it's mandatory to have a permanent user name before you can interact in the community. This is applicable for forums alone as of now but subsequently will be applied on user reviews and photos as well.

I'm putting down a small Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) here which we will keep updating as and when required. If you have any queries or problems, you can discuss them in this thread.

Update (18 Nov 09 4:05PM): The service is live now. If you are receiving any error, simply refresh the page that makes you choose your user name.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q 1. Why do we need to have a permanent user name? it was so cool earlier!

Frankly, it wasn't very cool earlier. The community is big now that we have thirty members with exactly same name posting in the community. When more than one person with same name participate in a forum thread, it becomes impossible to address a particular member.

Another reason is certain new features that are scheduled to be launched soon and they compulsorily need permanent user names. One good example is Private Messaging. Unless you know exact name of a person, you cannot send a private message to him, right? Even if we devise a member finder, it won't work effectively. For example, just imagine yourself searching for say 'Banwari' and 12 Banwaris returned, all with no surname or other differentiating identities!

Q 2. I can use community as I did earlier. I'm not asked for a user name or anything?

At the time of writing this FAQs (i.e. 17th Nov 09, 3:15PM), the service is not live as yet. It's expected to go live by evening (or late at night). The change will only be apparent when you try to write something in forum (creating a new thread or reply in an existing one). Reading threads, participating in user reviews and photos etc will not trigger this service.

Q 3. I see you have already assigned me a name, I think you could do better with my user name?

Nobody has chosen a name for you. It was done with the help of a computer program. The names are completely random and may have been derived from your existing names, email addresses or any other information that we had about you. Whatever has come up is purely coincidental and random. But nothing to worry, you can always update your name (only once).

Q 4. Can I update my user name?

Yes, you can update your user name here (unless already updated by you. Link is not provided yet). Please note that this service can be used only once. That's right, once you have chosen your user name, you can't update it anymore. We insist that you take utmost care while choosing your user name. We will not be in position of updating it once you are done!

Q 5. Can I update my user name later sometime?

Yes. But this 'later' doesn't mean 'ever'. You will have to update your user name before 25th December 2009. If you fail to choose a user name during this period, your system-generated user name will be considered final and will be marked as permanent!

Q 6. Is it compulsory to provide other community profile related information?

No. It's not mandatory, however, it would be nice of you to provide that information. It's for the community and other fellow-members may get benefited from it.

1st National Meet (CW Forums) at Mumbai on 19-20 Dec 09

Event: 1st CarWale Forum National Meet
Venue: Kihim, Alibaug, Near Mumbai
Date: 19th-20th Dec 2009
Dress Code: Smart casuals/casuals
Invitation Type: Exclusive to CarWale Forum members. Inviting friends not allowed unless they too are active on the forum.
Eligibility: Any forum member can join. New members are requested to get familiar with the forum before showing interest.

The Plan: We all will gather at CarWale office in Vashi, Navi Mumbai at 09:30AM on 19th Dec 2009. I will give you guys quick walk around of the office (it's a small office anyway), will have tea/coffee and then will leave to Alibaug at 10:30AM sharp. The idea of having the starting time this late is to ensure that everybody joins in, even those who are coming from outside of Mumbai and will reach only on 19th morning. We will arrange for suitable lodging/boarding for those who arrive on 18th Dec i.e. Friday evening.

We will drive down to the meet venue (those are coming by public transports, don't worry, we will have enough cars to accommodate everyone). There is a good snacks (desi) center on the way (Gurukripa or something. Amazing Vada Pao/Poha/Chai) at Panvel. We will stop by for 20 mins for snacks/breakfast. We will reach Kihim at around 1PM. Our event organizer will organize for a private bunglow (fairly large to accommodate all of us) with exclusive beach for us. We will have lunch, fun, dinner and fun before closing the day down. Next morning, we will start the day with tea/coffee and breakfast and will leave by 10AM and reach Vashi back at around 1PM. We will dismantle soon after.

The fun activities will include a few sports/games, discussions on various forum threads, community name finalizing etc. I am trying for a fun activity related to cars, I am sure 95% of you haven't experienced it before. But it's a secret as of now, if I work it out you will get to know only at Kihim, if it doesn't work out, you will never know. ;-)

Last date of participation confirmation is 15th November 2009.

There may be many reasons for them for not posting here. May be they are lazy, or they got all the info they need from other threads, or they have no specific doubts regarding vehicles.

Any how, I am just making a try to make them involved in the forum and known to others.

We plan to give our community a name. A name that we all feel good in getting associated with and feel proud about. The name will lead to a logo design and probably theming of the community related pages. We will also book a domain for the name and take a trade-mark on it to preserve our identity.

We need your suggestions. Please send your suggestions to me at banwari at carwale dot com. Please do NOT write a community name here as if the name is very good and it's noticed by somebody else we may not use it anymore.

You can use the following keywords as hint for the name:

Responsible, Matured, Helpful, Taking real world initiatives, Ethical, Passionate, Enthusiastic, General Car Interest and Environment Concious.

The above keywords are not randomly taken, I feel this is what we all are. This is what CarWale community is.

Other guidelines/help/hint: Probably a word or two long, generic or car related.

If you find a good name, just send it across without worrying if it is good or bad. Let my inbox be spammed. I won't mind. But lets find a good name.

Rules & Guidelines have since been framed/re-written taking in to account all the possible aspects. It is basically nothing but ‘commonsense’. The basic idea is to make the forums more organized, clean & meaningful.

Please spare a little time & go through the same meticulously; here the thread is - Rules & Guidelines for participating in the Forum (it will soon be numbered instead of the bullets).

Suggestions thereon, if any, may please be posted here in this thread (that thread is not open for discussion). Please restrict your opinions exclusively to the subject & in a constructive manner. Please do not put forth here suggestions that would otherwise find place in sections ‘Help us Improve’ or ‘Report a Problem’.

Good & meaningful suggestions will definitely find a place in the rules. Those will be appended or the existing contents edited suitably, as the case would merit. We look forward to such constructive suggestions/points.

Soon the Rules & Guidelines will be made sticky to all Sections/Threads. However, not withstanding the same & the changes it may undergo in the meantime, the rules/guidelines are in force with immediate effect (old thread on Rules for Car Wale Forums stands closed & obsolete now).

A) Rules & Guidelines

The rules/guidelines, laid down here & in the following posts, are NOT optional. If you have the time / wish to ask queries or participate in the forums & enjoy, you first need to find time to read & follow the rules/guidelines meticulously.

The same are, however, NOT laid down to restrict or discourage anyone from writing/ participating but to encourage one & all to write good and meaningfully.

Rules & guidelines are mixed-up for better clarity & to co-relate, and to leave no scope for interpretation (different). The same are illustrative in nature (& not exhaustive).

Please note the following…

Rules/guidelines will apply impartially to one & all (irrespective of post-counts/ credits) - no member is bigger than the forums, which may please be noted.
Moderators will be implementing the rules/guidelines, whenever required while conducting the forums, in the humblest possible manner without being offensive or personal. Members/ visitors are expected/required to accept the same in an equally humble manner/fashion.
