Hi Banwari, Rajeev, other CW team,

I was thinking of pulling out some data that I posted a while ago regarding some calculations on the running cost difference between petrol and diesel vehicles for moderate runs (13-15k km/a), to be able to support my objection to Satish's claim that diesel would be 30-40% cheaper than petrol at those runs.

To my dismay I could not think of an easy way to search for that post in the 1044 (excluding this) posts I have made to the forum. One can either search in the entire posts, or get a complete listing of own posts. Both options are not good when you only remember sketchy details of what was posted.

What I suggest now is a scope narrowing option available for the search, where one can specify (maybe you could have an incarnation of search for this, called 'advanced search', if the feature set is sufficient for such hyperbole!)

1. search a particular forum only

2. search in posts filtered by poster

3. search in threads having posts by a particular member

4. something on similar lines, which I cannot pull out of my hat online, as I write this...

This will help make searches more effective and useful. Currently only the navigation menu on top of the page is used extensively, and not the search(at least by me). Maybe (In my case, for sure!) because of these limitations.

Please let me know if this can be implemented.

Search Tool is being re-enacted (advanced features), and will soon be available in the Forums.

Currently, when we do search for any topic or check todays post list, the thread subject has the persons name who created the thread. It would be really nice if we can also mention the date on which this thread was first created. For example, once I save this post it will be listed in todays list as:

Creation Date along with Creator in thread list
by Anshu Jha

along with other details like number of replies and number of view and who last updated. This is what I am requesting:

Creation Date along with Creator in thread list
by Anshu Jha on 29th September 2009

I feel it would be really helpful when I am doing a search and I find lot of entries for my item. For example, I am searching for say ICE and some panasonic HU. Now there would be posts that may have started some where in 2007 and a price quoted for it is mentioned there. Definitely there would be price difference in 2 years and so that thread is irrevalant to me. In that case I can simply ignore that thread by looking into the creation date. The last updated date is definetely mentioned there so anyway I am going to know if really its relevant for me or not. And I would be happy with the latest thread. Also I feel it would be good for Mods in many ways.

Good points - will be taken into consideration in the new Search Tool.

Also in-case, there is no match found, is there a chance for some suggestions to be added ? ( just like in google.) it could make it more user-friendly.

At some times, a typing error could be the issue, or at times if its a technical word, the searcher himself might not know the word correctly.

In other words, why not partner with google for intrasite search...?

Well spare me the technical terms, ( i am not stil not sure if Krishna was trying to pull my leg or is making a point ) But not google. If Carwale could itself give/recommend the closest names of the keywords and search according to them for the user. It would be cool!

How about having list of other threads in the bottom which are related to the subject matter of discussion of a particular thread. (Courtsey : team-bhp)

Bingo ! That's pretty much what i wanted to say, at Team bhp , does the search option out there help if the searched item has a typing error ? or not the exact spelling ?

Ami-Something for you here, which you shouldn't miss.

Cheers
