I own Ritz zxi equipped with ABS. Even if I completed 800KM, i didn’t get a real chance to do some real hard braking. But one fact is still I'm not comfortable with ABS and sometime I felt I have to put extra pressure on pedal to stop the vehicle completely, for example slowing down for a speed breaker and to stop the car completely. In normal breaking we put a light pedal and pressing little harder according to speed descent. But in my car I use the same method in the above scenario, but sometimes, I need to press the pedal harder to stop it completely, and when I press harder, the car stops, but abruptly, which gives a sudden brake feel. So what I’m trying to explain is the feel of smooth braking as in normal braking system is not getting every time. So I want to hear from people who drive ABS cars especially Maruti’s.

May be it’s just a mental block after reading too much of ABS facts and confusing myselfEmbarassedWink

Well, don't bother about ABS - just drive as if the car doesn't have ABS and take all care that is needed to stop well in time. ABS is supposed to kick in only under hard braking - that too on slippery roads. However that does not mean that it is some sort of mechanism that will allow you to get lazy about braking...you still need to take care.

Thanks Rohit for your suggestion. I understand it's just a mind block. I'm not bothering now

Brake Pedal "Pulsation" is normal during the operation of ABS Brakes. The driver is required to keep the pressure on the brake pedal hard enough even under the pulsations. The pulsations may be quite violent, but this is normal. In an emergency stop in a car with ABS Brakes, the driver should apply the brake firmly and hold it while ABS does its work.

Bijs, Like Rohit said, to activate ABS, you need to press the brake hard & continously till the car comes to complete stop. I think you should not pump up the brakes.
