Hi guys. With great assistance from you all, i was able to select a ford as my choice of sedan. Recently, i came across this article on the ford ikon which was taken across the country to show its excellent reliability over 20,000 km in a period of less than 2 months. Interestingly, the operational costs of the car across the journey came out to be surprisingly low     you can find out more about this article on

excellent article. This will be an eye opener for people who still keep sayin "FORD is high/very high on maintenence". Thanks for the link Praveen.

Why break rules when following them is much easier!!!

Thanks centaur. the interesting part about the article was not only its maintenence costs, but on the buyer's perception. we never think of the operation costs of the car but we are truely fixated on the Kmpl. a new criteria to think about before buying the cars

well i guess that was an ikonic drive. interestingly the tests were not monitored by ford itself but by an independant company called KPMG. the results thus are very accurate and shows what the car is truely about. We should have these car companies simulate further drives to show the consumers, the limits of their car

Well, ford had to use many drivers to achieve this amazing task in such a short period, but only one ford ikon was enough to cover the entire distance of over 20,000 KM. This indeed shows the reliability that the ford cars possess.

The interesting statistic that came to my mind was the at one stage, the ikon did over 38 kmpl (on highway), which is awesome for mileage. Im glad that the engine proved reliable at such high temperatures over this huge course.

38 kmpl is very high and it will not be practically possible to get those figures(or  even 10 less) in our routine lives(on highways) ,its my personel opinion.

It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.

Ofourse anant, these figures are not possible in our routine lives. But over 10kmpl is easy to surpass in our daily lives. Also, this test figure is from the highway conditions, where the car is in optimum condition and traffic is at minimal. Thus that figure was achieved If you maintain your car, youll get a good mileage, always remember that.
