Between the two (ANHC,Verna)apart from good looks, snob value, betters interiors(in which honda is ahead).Verna Diesel is better car for your kind of useage as you need a diesel. It also has very good performence. Go for verna.

All the best.

It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.

I stared with almost with a similar list (ANHC, Civic low end, Altis, Verna Diesel, Fiesta)

Please let us know what are the factors that are important for you in the order of priority  in your car like

Fuel efficiency

Fun to drive factor

Performance and acceleration

Riding comfort

Service costs

etc etc

Please inform how long you would like to keep the car and whether resale value is important for you in the near  future - if you consider switching within 2 to 3 years

This will help the participants to give inputs that would help you choose your car

Did you do the TD of all the vehicles.

Verna diesel is good but its out dated with cheap interiors.  Verna petrol is flop.

SX4 new not much change.  Just honey comb grill and 10 spokes wheel and chocolate and beige interiors and USB.  I did the TD of this new SX4 but was not impressed.

You can go for fiesta is its wonderful car.

ANHC is also good car but poor suspension will make you worry.

When you are open to consider even Verna Diesel, you should actively consider Linea diesel too.

Verna has poor ride and handling combined with very nervous high speed dynamics. In addition in Verna the turbo lag is perceptible whereas Linea has linear power delivery.

Verna is known for its initial acceleration - but 30KM to 80KMPH  or 40 to 100 acceleration - Linea is way ahead. The roadgrip, steering response, corenering ability, braking efficiency are far far better in Linea than in Verna.

If fun to drive factor is most important for you, then Fiesta is good.

I srongly believe that the choice of diesel over petrol needs to be very closely analysed as  the car cos are the only people benefitting from it.Abroad the difference between petrol and diesel versions is very small (around 10k).In India they charge you a premium of 75 k to 110 k for diesel.Go only for petrol unless you are running taxi business.Fiesta is old, outdated model due to be replaced early next year New version will be bigger and of the size of SX4.Present Fiesta has small interiors, esp back seat.Verna is a dud model from Hyundai and its low sales forced Hyundai to continue with the older version Accent even after having withdrawn it from market.Verna is neither VFM nor a status symol.Honda City is impractical car due to its low ground clearance and small  and inconvenient back seat.SX4 is a well rounded package for the Indian roads and suits the practical and status concious middle class. It is now upgraded to suit the new norms which will come in April

Let me reiterate the facts here again – that I have posted elsewhere in carwale.

There is a misconception that strongly prevails among many of us that

“You need to run at least 1000 KMs per month, if you want to decide on a diesel car”

It is not true that if a diesel engine is run for less than so many KMs in a month, the engine will have problems or not perform. There is no such thing from engine technology perspective. This statement is purely a financial calculation based one and not engine technology based one.

The above statement is a kind of thumb rule to use – if you want to decide between a petrol and diesel car of the same make. Typically you spend about 80k to 1L extra for a diesel engine than a petrol engine in India. In that case if you run for about 1000 Kms/month, then you would recover the extra cost of diesel engine approximately in about say 3 years and after that only you start saving in terms of fuel expenses. So as per the thumb rule if your monthly running is more, your recovery of cost will be faster, that is all.

Again this logic can be applied only when you want to decide between petrol or diesel versions of same cars like

Verna – petrol or diesel

Fiesta – petrol or diesel

Linea – petrol or diesel

But typically when we start, we begin with ANHC, SX4, Fiesta, Linea or Verna.  Now if you want to decide between SX4/ANHC and Linea/Verna diesel, you just need to see the price difference between the 2 cars that you like from your usage or requirements  - say petrol ANHC and diesel Linea. Now when the Linea or Verna diesel is cheaper than ANHC, the above thumb rule should be thrown to wind – because you not only get a diesel car at a cheaper price than ANHC but will also save money from the first month on fuel.
