Diesel is not a bad proposition (all in all) for 1K of monthly run/usage - and particularly in your case, as the majority of your monthly run/usage consists highway driving (800 kms).  Diesel  cars have much better roll-on acceleration (due to higher torque) - overtaking is much easier.  Diesel engine is a better choice for more of highway driving.

By the way, there's a news that diesel SX4 will be there in August - have a look at this post & the URL referred therein.

ohh Yes even the Engineer at MAruti Workshop was telling me tat SX4 Diesel is coming out soon...that's nice if that's the caseI would rather wait and buy the SX4 diesel but if and only if it is atleast a 1.6Lt Engine.coz 1.3Lts would be underpowered for a bulky n heavy car like SX4.

Anywaz whether Petrol or Diesel looks like I am gonna finalize with SX4..Thanks for your help guys. Wink

Yes, 1.6 would make more sense (obviously).

Do keep us posted with your decision, and keep writing/participating. Thanks.

i liked Octavia a lot as it has great power and an excellent drive feel & performance. My city run would be like 200kms a month and highway around 800kms a month so diesel makes no sense for me. Only concern I have is that is Octavia a very expensive car to maintain?

Thank You

In general. German cars are more expensive to maintain.  But people fall in love and buy it for unique driving charcteristic, handeling, performance and image.  Since time imemorial, People have done everything for love.

personally i like the octavia a lot. The design, the performance, the space, the double bed boot etc. Its just perfect but then I wouldnt like to have a car which I would have to park in my garage most of the time fearing maintenance costs. It would be a while elephant in that case

Skoda comes from VW family and definitely will be good ride sans the maintenance cost

I won't say that Octavia maintenance is too expensive, as the brand itself signifies quality. one can rely on its quality. I am a big fan of Skoda cars. Moreover, from maintenance aspect, it can be little higher and Skoda luxury segment cars cannot be compared with other carlines.

the problem is that skoda maintenance cost for its luxury cars are way higher than its Indian counterparts. A few bucks here and there is not a big deal if you are getting a great performer but unfortunately that is not how it it is!Frown
