Vishal, we have discussed that before...

  • i10 & i20 both have same engine.  10 (due to less weight) is peppier than i20.
  • Swift has more power & driving pleasure than i20 (& i10).
  • i20 has very decent performance & has better build-quality, more space/comfort & better interiors/features.  It is, all in all, a better car - for sure.

As suggested by Ashish, test-drive the cars & feel the difference.

I'm not aware of the exact figures but I think it would be more or less as in i10 (discussed before).

This was very intresting disscution going on . i 20 a very good car in terms of space, interiors, features, but lacs a lettel bit power. swift has more power but you should go for the swift if you are taking the diesel and the diesel doesn,t have zdi therfore no airbags . the i20 has airbags for driver and pesnger in the topend.

Jazz is overpriced.  The pricing/package may, however, suit preferences & requirements of some.... have a look at this discussion.

While i20 is a VFM car (pricing/package).

Dear Amit,

I own an i 20 Magna version and I completely second to Mr. Pankaj's observations about i 20....i 20 Asta is was about 60k above Magna's price..think the additional price is justified by essentials like Air bags, Alloy wheels, Fog lamps, rear wiper, Automatic climate control, electricaly operated side mirrors, peppy stearing with audio controls, height adjustable drivers seat, keyless entry with folding key(like skoda keys) and rear spoiler(with a little bit of bargain)....I am a budget guy and m happy with my Magna version....

cheers..

SALIL

I agree with you as well as Pankaj.  Our views and opinions are not fixed but they are dynamic and change as we accumulate more real life feedback (experience).   Smart people learn from the experience of others rather than to wait for that to happen in their own life.   I am not a great believer that everyone should  reinvent the wheel.  As I mentioned in some other thread, I had an almost head on collision over 3 years ago and I am convinced that I am alive because my car had seatbelt ELR, pretensioners and airbags.

Today, things have changed on Indian roads.  Say 20-30 years ago, higher percentage of Ambassadors and Premiers were driven by chauffeurs and traffic was that high and cars were driven at moderate speed, safety issues were not that crucial.  Today, most cars are driven by owners and family members and traffic movement is much faster, so need for safety is paramount value.  Todays most drivers of luxury B+ segment H/B are professionals, who play bigger role in their family, profession, society and community and well being of few depend on them and life has become more valuable like West.  Today, peoples regular commute is longer and they demand more safety, comfort and convenience

About modern cars, there are features which can be added later on by outside vendors and there are features which can only be fitted during manufacturing process to be cost effective.  If I was in control, I would have given Magna front seatbelt ELR + pretensioners, rear defogger, ABS and at least one airbag rather than 2-Din CD player.  Most car owners fit CD player of their choice anyway from outside.  I agree that some luxury features, like ACC, Alloy, stereo control on steering wheel etc. are not must but if they are not there then they are not uxury cars or do they.  Maruti 800 is the best VFM but demandd more.  I have them all, got used to them and now I feel them as necessity but I don't mind stretching my arms to regulate them.  This is true that adding ABS and airbags to any car will add about 30-40 K to production input cost.

I would love to hear from you about your experience with Magna.  Is the engine really underpowered, as people say?  I hear, i20 is more aerodynamic, so FE and power is quite comparable to i10 Kappa, in spite of weight and size.  What is your FE and overall experience.

but how justified it is to go for i 20 when it has the same engine as i 10 ...and why not go for maruti swift petrol  ,which is tested and proven

don't u pplthink  that driving i 20 will be like a horse struggling and suffocating to speed up (PICK UP)

as  body is huge and heavy with a low powered i.e underpowered engine

Vishal, engine is a very important module of any car but people buy whole car, not just the engine, so they consider other aspect of the car as well.  For example, Fiat diesel engine 1.3 MJD, a very fine and efficient engine, is used in so many cars in India and different people are buying different cars to meet their specific needs.  What will you say to people who are buying Ritz Vdi, Swift Vdi and Dzire Vdi?

World is always seen on relative scale.  Few months back, i20 was considered very overpriced H/B.  After the introduction of Jazz and GP, i20 became VFM.  GP is very good car but people pull back due to ASS and part concern.

I will not be surprised if Honda offerers some cash discount on Jazz after few months of sale.  They want to maintain their unique image for quality and reliability but they can not afford to be undersold for long.

What will be the price of i20 diesel variants?

Hyundai To Launch i20 1.4 AT

Thu, Jul 2, 2009

Hyundai India will launch a more powerful version of the i20 petrol. The car is currently powered by the 1.2L Kappa engine which gets excise duty benefits. However the new engine won't get any such benefits. The 1.4L i20 will be equipped with automatic transmission, a first for the segment. The i20 1.4L will not have a manual transmission variant. The 1.4L engine generates 99PS@5500rpm and 137NM@4700rpm.
