... And only moderators can do it without any bias.

The fact is that Binoy & me (Mods) are basically members like you or anyone.  We do not undertake test-drives (for CarWale), and are not professionals.  We have always tried to be impartial & unbaised in our views on test-drives undertaken by CarWale or others, and have like-wise also shared our findings on test-drives undertaken by us.
Test-drive on i20 is due from CarWale, as stated before.  It's expected to come soon.  Other test-drives will also come through.  Rest assured, all those reviews/reports will be without any bias.

There is a fine line and lot of grey area between 'personal opinion' and 'bias'.

Having said that we(mods) are all enthusiasts and do give our opinion on the background of personal observations and cumulative experiances of decades(amoung us taken together) of owing and driving cars.

We have some excellent roadtesters and auto jornalistis associated with CarWale and i have seen some fine reviews on our own CW.

All said and done, CW reviews should also take into account time. Its been a month + on the launch of the CRDi i20 1.4 diesel manual and its cousin the I20 1.4 petrol automatic. A number of reviews have already appeared on team-bhp, mouthshut and other popular review sites. Carwale - simply put is lagging behind. This was not the case not so long ago, when we rushed to CW to check out the initial reviews. More articles/more content/more discussion/ more users to the site.

So put on your boots and get the reviews.

....You can get very comprehensive report on this subject. i20 crdi Vs GP 1.3 MJD Vs Ritz....

Just to add: The particular TD report that you are talking about has been done by a member of TBHP and not by the MOD's or ADMIN's.

Infact,i would like to add that even on team-bhp,no review of i20 has been written by any of the moderators or administrator,i don't know why.

The one's that are available are more or less biased or plagued by personal choices or prefrences.

You  are right Ami , i knew that it was written by member not by mod/ admn.

When i said that this sort of test can be done only by moderators without any bias, it tells all. It says that they can evaluate the car much better than commom man. We all have personal likes & dislikes & it reflects. Moderators are in much better position than normal person as stated by Binoy .

There is no doubt that i 20 is a better product but we are discussing it with context to others .  It is comparison so i asked Moderators to come up with such report which will be useful to all.

Although it is out of this thread , manufacturers like Tata & Hyundai are not giving exact sales figures of Vista ( included in Indica ) & i20 ( Export figure given ). Why ?

hi  can still some one tell me the ground clearance of i120 .....,,,,

mileage in city ?

what about i10 as it has more power than 120 ,sm ppl say in discussions that i20 has tha same 1 10 engine and more of weight  so it feels under powered

that what about maruti swift  petrol ?

Post edited to remove bold format for better readability.

GC of i20 is approx 160 mm (as information from other site) whereas i10, Swift, Ritz all has 170mm.

Mileage of i20 is approx 12-14 in City & 16+ in highway.

Yes, pick up in i10 is more than i20 with same Kappa engine, but I should say i20 is not at all underpowered but i10 is overpowered with the 860 Kg kerb wt.

Regarding Swift petrol, the present engine to be replaced in 1st qtr of 2010 by Ritz KB engine.

@ Vidhu - It will be up real soon. We have a lot of catching up to do vis-a-vis cars already launched and not tested.

Friends, I just finished reading through this entire thread, but still thought of posting this query to find a direct answer:

After months of car-hunting, I have zeroed in on two choices for my second, primary car (I already own a 2001 Santro and I just love it, and still plan to retain it as a back-up car.

Well, my choices now are: the i20 Magna vs i20 Asta. (Yes, they are both i20s!). However, the 90K difference in the on-road price-tag is my line of contemplation.

Is it really worth going in for the higher-priced Asta, considering the additional features it offers?

Assuming that I still break my budget to choose the i20 Asta, my questions are:

  1. How costly would it be to maintain its extra features that are not part of the Magna? I'm talking about the electrically adjustable ORVM (in case it fails/breaks in a freak accident), rear-wiper, and the Air-bags/ABS (I'm not knowledgeable enough about any regular servicing needs for the Air-bags & ABS - pardon my ignorance here).
  2. How better would be the Asta's resale value compared to the Magna, after, say, 5 yrs?

My budget when I started my hunt was in the range of 6L-6.1L. The head says "Magna", whereas the heart says "Asta". The extra budget that I have to account for, is nearly 40K.

Please help me choose!

Thank you very much.
