Stick to 60/55. Philips is a good option followed by Osram.

Ask if the dealer can provide a demo. If you feel the above is not fine then go for a 100/90 with relay.

Guys...while talking of going for brighter headlamps, have you considered people/drivers coming from opposite direction? I have raised this point 2-3 times earlier in this forum (in other threads) but no one has commented/replied/agreed/disagreed with it.

For those who use ultra-bright lights (for whatever reason, be it visibility, making a statement, whatever) just park your car with the headlights ON and move a few metres away in the opposite direction in the other lane and look at your car's lights - it is highly probable that you will find it blinding: You cannot see the road properly, people crossing the road from front of your vehicle will appear as ghostly shadows (and this is worsened at speed or when there are no/dim streetlights). Imagine running over someone just because you could not see him (or saw him but it was too late to brake as you were too close) due to the blinding light from the opposite car. Who's to blame? The other car driver for having blindingly bright lights or you for failing to see the person crossing the road?

People, this is not some stupid rant - I face this everytime I drive at night. Many times have I considered upgrading to the brightest lamps available...but then stop short thinking that its not going to help things. Not to mention the tiring effect it has on my eyes (and in most probability everyone else's).

Quite a valid point Rohit ...very well put ... I agree to you on this ... I guess more than 95% car owners do pretty well with original headlamps....

It will be about the proper usage of High and Low beam. And not much about the power of the light.

PS: I am also against improper usage of high beams. Especially in city.

Ami - high beam when not required is another problem - and it only compounds the problem posed by high brightness lamps. I have observed that many drive not with the high beam on but with bright lights - some cars have flood-light like lamps: the light is so bright that one simply cannot make out even the vehicle that's carrying them!! High beam can be made out as the lamp displays a small black circle when its switched on. However most bright lamps that I am complaining about don't display the circle implying that its the lamps that are bright and not because of being used in high-beam mode.

Note that when the opposite vehicle is climing up a slope towards you, even a normal beam may appear to us as high beam due to the focussing angle.
