Thanks for all the tips on a/c.  I never thought about the compressor taking load and such.

Hi Mani,

You mentioned that it is an AURA SAFIRE (top-end petrol), right?

In the specification it is mentioned that this one includes REAR FOG LAMPS as well. But in the pictures you uploaded they seem to be missing!

I am confused. Also please tell me whether AURA SAFIRE includes engine immobilizer as AURA QUADRAJET does?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, its Aura Safire (top-end petrol). The two Red lights at the rear bumper are fog lights (they are very sharp). We have two buttons on the dashboard, one for turning on front fog lamps and other for rear.

I am not sure about immobilizer but if Aura Quadra has it then Aura Safire should have it too.  You should really ask Tata/dealer about this.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Rear fog lights is placed just above the bumper and below the reverse light. It is the bottom most light in the rear lights cluster.

I checked the mileage of my car today.  I call it "Beast" or sometimes "Spaceship" because it does feel like you are floating in space (not flying) when the car goes past 3rd gear (above 60km/hr).  And it is a Beast amongst the hatchbacks.

Driven 413/km so far.

It has given 9.31/ltr. (with 90% a/c)

Tata recommended gear shift for best mileage is :

1st - upto 10km/hr
2nd - upto 20km/hr
3rd - upto 30km/hr
4th - upto 40km/hr
5st - upto 50km/hr and above

Its double for the running-in period and my Spaceship is still in running-in, so I change gears only past 2-3 rpm.   I expect the mileage to be 11-13 after the running-in.

I calculated how much money I will lose per year for not buying a Quadrajet.

For 6000 km / yr run   (500 km / month)

600ltr petrol/yr = Rs. 28800 (@10km/ltr avg)  Rs. 48/ltr
400ltr diesel/yr = Rs. 12800 (@15km/ltr avg)  Rs. 32/ltr

Difference - Rs. 16000 lost per year for not having Quadrajet

But its fine with me because Quadrajet was costing Rs. 1 lac more than Safire

The A/C is still a chiller, no problems at all.

Thanks for sharing the details.  I feel the mileage is litte less (should be 10-11).  Anyway, as stated by you, it will improve after the running-in period.

Despite fpllowing all the methods mentioned by you guys, I am not getting a good cooling in hot afternoons. I usually dont park my car outside in the hot sun, but even then the cooling is unsatisfactory. I take care to see that all the hot air is pushed outside by rolling down the windowa for 2 minutes in drive and thereafter switch on the AC with full speed blower. The thermostat is kept to the extreme end of blueline. Also, I keep the recirculation mode in off position for about 3-4 min initially (recirculation is started when I feel the hot air has all been driven out & cooling is setting in). All care is taken to avoid load on the compressor, but cooling is still unsatisfactory.

In the early mornings & late evenings when the outside ambient temperatures are low, the cooling is quie good. Twice I have even observed dew drops forming on the vents!! But in the hot afternoons, the AC seems to be lethargic Cry

It's like this... Roll-down the door glasses > start the AC > drive for a while (glasses open & AC on) > roll-up the windows after the hot air is blown-out.

This will help.

Yes Pankaj, I do roll up window glasses only after the AC has run for some time.
