Guys any advice on accessories. I've paid the booking amount for the Spark PS and will be getting it this week.

I have a list of accessories that I'm planning to purchase, and think might be useful.I'm listing the prices that the dealer has offered to me, and would like advice on what prices are reasonable, and what I should either bargain or get from an outside store.

Mudflaps, carpets, LH OSRVM & Teflon Coating are free.

  • Spoiler: 3600
  • Body kit skutting: 15500
  • Reverse Sensor: 2000
  • Reverse Horn: 150
  • UnderChasis Treatment (anti-rust?): 4000
  • Wheel covers: 4400 (this seems very expensive to me)
  • Fog-lamps: 5623
  • Door moulding: 850
  • Bumper scratch guard: 683
  • Bumper Body color: 4000
  • Sony MP3 with USB: 9000
  • Sony rear speakers (400W): 4000
  • Sony front speakers (1350)

I can get a lot of these items from outside for much cheaper. Only thing is, I am not sure if outside I'll get the same quality components.

Also, if an item, such as the CD player has a problem, will I be able to get it fixed easily, or will I have to do a lot of running around. How good is Pioneer's warranty service vs. Sony's?

Anything else I should consider.

Get the accessories from outside (cheaper by 20-25%) & will get to choose from various brands/makes.  Workmanship quality will not be an issue - outside accessory shops have the required expertise, as they sell/fit much more than dealers do. After sales service is all good.  Ensure you get these from a good & reputed shop.

getting the accessories is always cheaper. The quality of products doesnt change as the brands remain the same. Only that the showroom people do not compromise on their profit margin while external vendors do. If you have any problem with the stereo you can go back to the vendor from whom you purchased it and they will fix it. No need of running from pillar to post as such.

Ok, guys, now I need a bit of advice on which accessories to take.

First, the outside:

Paint: I'm getting the bumper painted the body color (red). Also considering getting the door-handles and rear-view mirrors painted the same color if the price is reasonable. Planning to get this done with the dealer. If I got this work done outside, would they do a good job and get exact color?

In addition, if I have the money, I'd like to get the spoiler and under-body skutting to give it a sportive look. If I get these from outside, and not from the dealer, will they be the same items, same quality? Also any idea if the under-body skutting will go much lower than the body, thus increasing the chance of it touching bottom on a large speed-bump?

Thanks

A couple questions about Allow wheels:

  1. Is there any advantage to them beyond style. Some of the car magazines I've been reading recently mention that they increase handling, is this really true, and is there a noticeable difference?
  2. If I get alloy wheels from outside, would there be any wheel alignment problems? As part of their service Chevy offers 2 or 3 wheel alighnments. Would changing the wheels void that part of the warranty? Apollo Acelor wheels are supposedly available for around 12K, maybe cheaper, and they have some nice designs.

Thanks for taking the time, and really appreciate all your advice. I'm not planning on getting all these accessories, but based on my budget, I want to purchase the accessories that would be most beneficial and useful first, and then consider other items later. So any info you can provide to help here would be greatly appreciated.

All the work/accessories etc. you can get it done from outside - nothing to worry on brand/quality & workmanship, and regarding warranty.

Alloys are basically for looks/fancy. Good & light alloys do marginally/negligibly help better handling, braking & mileage.

asa far as the paint job is concerned i would just like to put forth a word of caution. There is no guarantee that you will get the exact shade thats already on your car. These days they say that the paint color and other things are computer generated - not sure how true it is. Even to touch up a scratch or repair a dent a paint they advice to get the entire body painted as it is very difficult to get the exact match for the color and if there is a shade difference it will look pretty odd. So try and find out if you will get exactly the same shade that is presently on the car - not darker or lighter.

There are various designs of side skirts available in the market. How lower they go depends on the design.

Putting alloys does not cause any wheel alignment problems as such. Do confirm with the dealer if changing the wheels will cause you to lose the wheel alignment package and then decide if you really need it. Aura also has pretty good designs

Thanks. I'll talk with the dealer, and if I can get a discount will probably prefer to get paint job from the dealer. Will get everything else from outside.

Also, decided not to get alloy wheels. Too little benefit for too high a price.

As for other accessories, I'm planning to get this now:

  1. Anti-rust (dinitrinol was recommended in a thread)
  2. Wheel covers (black color if can get them)
  3. Spoiler
  4. Door moulding
  5. Fog lamps
  6. Music system
  7. Car seat covers

I think for now this will be enough. Any thing you'd recommend getting in addition to this? I'll probably have another 5K to 8K remaining in my budget after I get all this.

Spend the spare money (5-8K) to get better Music System & Seat Covers.

I'll probably take your advice. I've posted a thread in the AV forum for more advice on the music system.

Regarding fog lamps, are they basically the same, any particular brand or brightness I should take?

Post edited to provide link to the thread started on Music System.

Sorry I'm not aware of the details (fog lamps).  But yes there are various brands/makes - some of which would suit Spark.

Others will guide you better.
