Folks,

I booked my i10 Magna (Oyster Grey) today.  I am not sure if I was good at bargaining or I was taken for a ride.  The deal was:

1. Initial OTR 467849
2. Minus Free Insurance (my preferred vendor) 13909
3. No other cash discount (I don't work for a known MNC so no corporate bonus)

This comes to be around 4.53L OTR.  The dealer was giving only mud flaps and floor mats as part of the package.  I negotiated hard to get the following included as well with an extra 7K:

1. Under Chassis Coating
2. Stearing, Seat and Body covers
3. 3M Sun filming
4. Teflon Polish (note: not Teflon coating - these guys are cheeky when it comes to fineprint)
5. A bottle of perfume and diety idol

What I really forgot is the keyless entry (bad me: had prepared a list and finally forgot to take it to him today) - we'll figure this later.

Coming to the actual question - on the MP3 player he says he has a deal for Blaupunkt Hamburg MP57 series where he'll give the HU for 11K instead of 16K.  With 2-3K per pair of speakers this works out to be around 15-16K.  Is this a good ICE for i10?  Any know drawbacks?  Is the dealer fragging me?

thanks,
madhu

Madhu,

Your question needs to be addressed in two parts. Part 1 is installing the audio gear at the dealer vs doing it in the open market. Given below is the reply I had posted in another thread, on a simmilar issue. I think there the dealer was giving the guy a 20k audio package for free. 20k based on dealers prices. The gist is applicable to your case as well.

"I would never install any accessories at the dealer. I would put all accessories from the open market. You would get a better choice and it would be cheaper.

Can u list by item, make, model, exactly what he is giving you for 20k? Chances are what he is offering as 20k of goodies would only be worth 8-10k in the open market. Next factor in the fact that the dealer would have bought all these items in bulk so it prob cost him 4-5k. He is giving 4-5k from the margin he makes on selling the car to ensure that you dont buy your car from someother hyundai dealer.

When I bought my car, the model came with a factory fitted cd player and front components which the dealer claimed was worth 30,000. I knew that I was going to install a full audio setup so I told the dealer to remove the cd player / speakers and give me a discount of 30k. After a long argument and my threatening to cancel the booking, he agreed to take it out and give me a 5000 discount. That should tell you something. Smile

Just get the bare bones car from the dealer for all accessories use the open market. Just my 2 cents worth."

Part 2 is the actual selection of the system. I would be best if you bought and built your setup over 2-3 steps. You could spend 16K now another 15k in 3-4 months or whatever time period that works for you. This way each part of your setup, hu/speakers/amp/sub would be of good quality and you would enjoy it for years. It would take some time, but then Rome wasnt built in a day.

The other way and what 95% of people do is to try and cram everything into the first purchase. With this option while you may get thngs in one go, the quality of each component in your setup will have to be lower.

So in summation you need to decide:

1. Dealer vs open mkt

2. Final budget

3. One step vs 2-3 to build the system.

Based on the above we can then offer some solutions.

One more suggestion. Blaupunkt was earlier part of BOSCH group but no any longer. BOSCH has sold Balupunkt to another German company. You may have difficulty in getting service for your audio system.

Hey Madhu

Few more things to add what kind of music you are looking for. I mean just a soothing and refreshing or you want the real thump in your car. Blaupunkt speaker price seems reasonable however HU unit is surely high. As arun mentioned above go for the open market. A decent audio system with complete pioneer or sony HU unit and 4 speaker will not cost you more than 13-18K which gonna give a great output. SO when you decide what you want, let me know i will work it out for you.

Secondly me from delhi. I have just booked my i10 sports and am wondering is prices in bangalore too high. I have booked i10 sports for 4.32L after discounts. Plus accessories provided - gear lock, mud flaps, perfume kit, foot mats and teflon coating.

@Puneet: The price for the HU is fine. Provided it is with B&W.

Bangalore prices are quite competent.

Sure guys - will update once I go to the dealer.  I like the HU for it's BT functionality - nothing much though.  I was also thinking this:

1. I had a couple of oval speakers that used to fit on my old car.  The cover of the speakers (visible portion when fit on to the parcel tray) is slightly worn out in terms of paint.  Is there a way that I'd only get the covers and still reuse the old speakers?

2. I have a JVC audio HU from my old car as well.  If I would say that BT functionality is only a nice to have and not an absolute necessity would my old HU (JVC - KD-G413) work the magic provided I plan to spend the extra amount on the speakers in the front?

thanks,
madhu

1. You may very well use the old speakers. Getting a grille would solve your problem.

2. That is a nice option. If you dont get much calls in the car then BT feature can be let go.

Puneet/Ameen,

Thanks for the clarification.  So here is my current thinking:

1. Reuse JVC HU
2. Use rear oval speakers on a new MDF tray that I'll have to buy alongwith speaker grilles (the speakers are Ford OEM 45W ones)
3. Buy component speakers for the front

I listen to light and soothing music more so the vocals need to have a better clarity.  Could you suggest me the speakers I should go for in the front?  Also the approximate cost in Bangalore that I should bargain for, for the speakers and the tray and the installation charges.  Had few more doubts:
1. The HU panel is greyish in color while the I10 front panel is black.  Would it look odd with the beige interiors?
2. I don't have the original wiring set with me - I hope it is a standard off the shelf stuff I can pick up from the dealer?
