Nowadays most of the 4 Wheelers are with Power Assisted Brakes which decreases the amount pressure the driver has to apply on the Brake pedal. This Power Assistance could only happen when the engine is on. This is same for Power Steering too. Never try to roll  your car down on a slope without switching on the engine.

...I hv noticed that after my first servicing I am getting mileage of 13-14 KMPL. Is that ok?

I guess you are talking about city mileage.  If so, that's very good.  Safire generally returns 11-13 in city & 15-17 on highway.

Dear Venu Gopal,

I have the same the problem as you reported that whenever my vista-tdi passes over a hump / pothole, I am hearing a 'WHISK' noise from the front suspension / shock absorber.

Can it be replaced ?

I bought my car in Dec-08 and it seems to be the first batch car. My AC make is BEHR and not comfortable with the cooling effect.

As someone pointed will Tata guys replace the AC ECU unit ??

Thanks,

Siva

Have a look at this discussion we have had on front shock absorbers.

Ask for replacement - there are have cases where the units have been replaced.

Selva, you are right. On slope I have noticed that brakes are not applying. It is advised to all that never drive vehicle (at least Vista) w/o ignition on.

Pankaj, I will re-check on this. My travel is more on highway than in city.

One more thing Can you all Update you Chasis No. due to this we can find it out Vechile manufacturing Date. I guess its after Feb 09. You can easily know the Manufacturing date of ur Vechile .............  use this...

Here is how to interpret the Indica / Indigo / Marina chassis & engine numbers :
Chassis Number :
A typical chassis no. is --- 600132CTZP78900.
The first 6 characters are the model code --- in this case, Indica DLE.
The 7th character --- 'C' in this example --- represents the month of
manufacture, according to the foll. table :
A --- Jan.
B --- Feb.
C --- Mar.
D --- Apr.
E --- May.
F --- Jun.
G --- Jul.
H --- Aug.
J --- Sep.
K --- Oct.
L --- Nov.
M --- Dec.
Pls note that ' I ' is not used.
The 8th & 9th characters together represent the year of manufacture, according to the foll. table :
Z --- 0
Y --- 1
X --- 2
W --- 3
V --- 4
U --- 5
T --- 6
S --- 7
R --- 8
Q --- 9
P --- 10
and so on.
In our example, the 8th & 9th characters are ' T Z '. Reversing the order makes it ' Z T '.
As per the table, this converts to ' 0 6 ', or the year 20 06, the ' 20 '
being assumed.
The 10th character represents the Plant location, with ' P ' for ' Pune '.
The last 5 numbers comprise the Serial No. of the chassis.
So, our example no., 600132CTZP78900, means the model is Indica DLE, manufactured in March, 2006, at Pune, having chassis serial no. ' 78900 '.
Engine Number :
A typical engine no. is : 475IDI__03 CTZP12345.
The first 6 to 8 character group represents the engine type, as per foll. table :
475IDI --- Non turbo diesel.
475IDI TC --- Turbocharged Diesel.
475MPFI --- Petrol MPFI.
The next 2 digit number represents the emission norms as per the foll. table:
05 --- BS-2 from Jan 2005 onwards.
03 --- BS-3.
The remaining 9 characters represent the month, year of mfr., Plant, & serial no. of engine, as per the chassis no. tables.
So an engine no. of 475IDI 03 CTZP 12345 will be a non-turbo diesel engine, conforming to BS-3, manufactured in March, 2006, at Pune, & having serial no. 12345.
Now anyone buying a new car can check the month & year of mfr!!

Hello, I am having vista quadrajet. But it has got different chassis no than above. Can you please elobarate below chassis no?

MAT6114529PD34924.

Thanks

Thanks,

As many friends here know I had been uncomfortable with the poor performance of the AC in my Vista Aura QJD. After a very long drawn effort from my side, the dealer has finally replaced & reprogrammed the ECU of my car (supposedly on the advice of TML). I cant say that the AC has come up in performance substantially after the replacement.  So could it be that the "BEHR" compressor is the defective part that needs to be replaced?

Has anyone here got a similar AC problem and an ECU replacement> Pl share.

Hi Everyone,

I have already posted in another thread: "Problem faced in Indica Vista" the way I got my Vista Safire AC problem solved.

I am pasting it here again as I think this is more appropriate thread and can help more people.

I got my Vista Safire Aura AC problem solved during my first service from RD Motors Rajarhat, Kolkata.

The service was great. They checked and found out that the SUBROS AC had a high gas pressure of 600 units whereas it was mentioned that it should have been 400 units. So they REMOVED ALL the gas from the AC and FILLED AGAIN upto 400 units. (Can't understand why they removed and filled again - they could have just removed 200 units. Anyways mereko kya!!! - mujhe to aam khane se matlab hai, guthli se kya karna?)

Now the AC is working fine.

I also got the underneath coating done for Rs. 2206/- from there only.

NOTE: I think its better to get it done from an authorized service center as:

1. The warranty does not gets void.

2. Its easy to maintain the car as you go there every six months for free service anyway - so if you get it done from some other place for a few hundred bucks less you then have to take your car to another place as well. A lot of hassle.

Great car enjoying it right now. Cool

NOTE: In fact the AC is working so good that I need to switch it off after some time. Smile

A note to moderators: The <blockquote> HTML code is not working. Its there in the post. Please check!
