RTOs will never restrict any vehicle to be used as a taxi/cab. even the best of brands like Mercedes etc. do have yellow number plates. However, if the Company says that we will not sell a particular model to anyone who registers it for commercial pusposes, they have every right to do so. Whether or not Tata have done that for Vista is something I don't know.

Any Clue Mods. Esp. Pankaj?

Yup - the RTO cant impose such restrictions, the restriction is usually at the dealer's side because its the dealer who does the registration of brand new vehicles.  I'm not sure if a dealer is allowed to sell a vehicle alone without registration, else that would be a possible loophole to circumvent any such directive from the manufacturer.

There's nothing preventing you from buying a used vehicle and changing it to commercial plates, though.

Steeroid has a point... there is no restriction in getting the pvt. registered vehicles converted into commercial.  It's not an expensive affair, as life-time tax for both types of registration is same (in most of the states).  It would mean paying only the conversion charges & commercial/permit fee periodically based on engine size & seating capacity, and higher insurance premium.  But this route is adopted by few - at least not immediately on purchase.

I personally believe that no manufacturer can choose buyers by imposing any such restriction.  But they do pass instructions (like Tata have done in case of Vista & now in Manza) to their dealers / sales team to discourage sale for commercial use. RTO & Insurance Company, in any case, have no say.

It is NOT mandatory to get the vehicle registered through the dealer - except temp. registration (undefined - pvt or commercial).  But the fact is that most of the vehicles are registered through dealers only.  Therefore, the dealers are quite successful in discouraging commercial sale/registration, when they desire to.

Even Insurance is NOT mandatory to be obtained through dealer.  But it has to be obtained, in any case, before delivery of the car.  Insurance cover, unlike temp. registration, is defined - pvt. or commercial - the premium & terms/conditions are decided based thereon.  This is another reason why dealers are successful in discouraging commercial sale/registration.

This is what Tata has done in case of Vista – must say quite successfully (going by few yellow plates seen), and hope it does so in case of Manza too.

Honesty is not a Spare Wheel that you pull out when in trouble. It's a Steering Wheel that keeps you on the right path throughout the life's journey.

"positive"

presently in kerala i see more indigo manza on the road than swiftdzire

indica vista i think tata itself was not much interested into it rather they wanted the presence only so they filled in with a hatchback ,i dint see much ads neither the sales guyz in the showroom are much enthusiastic abt vista .

i own aura quadrajet ,my experience is, sales exec explained me all about it and finally he concluded saying it is almost and everything like swift but for the model and brand name.

since 9 months ive been revving and i am happy with its perfomance, with good power and ride comfort plus fE =18~20 kmpl

It is obvious that you will see more dzire than manza ..why? because it has seen the world at least a year and half earlier than manza. To get the correct picture, dude, you should check out how many are yellow sticker? (new car -just applied for registration).

I don't know how the dealers can enforce the ban on commercial registration. They can get into trouble if someone is bent on getting his way about getting a yellow board. Technically, selling a vehicle and registration are separate activities, and Dealer is just facilitating the registration of the car. The dealer charges a fees for the same. The RTO restriction on the dealer could just be that they cannot sell without any registration done in advance. If they coerce the customer into private registration instead of commercial, they can as well be sued for restrictive trade practice.

It may just be that people don't think it is worth fighting to claim a Vista/Manza for commercial use. If someone actually threatens, probably they would get a yellow board.

well said

very very ture...!!!

people tried to get more out of swift or at least expected  (stuff like that) but suzuki did thier buziness well untill people opened thier eyes....its pathetic in india ..10 people say swift is the car almost everybody is running for it ....i had seen some people comparing /competing a petrol swift with some underpowered vfm cars and trying to win the points...

again 4 years ago when i saw swift on the road that was almost my dream car but now its almost like  m800 we find it everywhere i feel bored to see it.

moreover tata is an indian company and suzuki a forign one ..so in india its gentle belief "forign items are best"

even though indica and indigo manza, thier built is more or less fiat ,also a  forign company..it wont be long time we can see indian built /tested engines and tata is doing excellent with a product like  indigo manza, vista and hats off to tata for amazing Nano..!!

one of my friend who happens to be in govt service and had some relations with tata officials narrated that,

"somewhere tata is doing justice being honest about thier product , as they are not giving out huge ads, to avoid  flooded bookings eventually avoiding long waiting periods.they seems to have understood well  what thier production capacity is and how much they shudnt dissappoint the end users."

almost in every review about vista i read critics about the centre speedo and tacho, many where dissappointed but some did welcome it, i appreciate later . many citicised saying it is to save money as while exporting outside india they can use the same dash..how silly they figured it out like that, dint they think about the glove box and steer column grooves and rest of the underneath harness??

awy  i learnt somewhere through googling ..our eyes have better reflex control and vision possibility when we are a moving our eyeballs  sideways than moving up or down. to be compared to speedo under the steering or just as in vista ..but true old habbits die hard ...!!!!!

i dont know much about taxi stuffs what i realize about it is taxi cars means rough use and in india all the cars exept maruthi's (-rare),i have seen taxi cabs very common. and it was common belif maruthi is fragile or "family car"-not at all in the frame of built quality or strenght ,even though its all different now but it is still bieng followed. contradictory to that people in india had seen and absorbed the rigidness of tata and mahindra vehicles from very long time and they put the same thumb rule to cars too and the image of indica gone  haywire..

i wonder how it would be to put maruthi alto and zen bieng used as taxi side by side with indica and good old amby..!!

finally .. Nano again i dont think in india people are much excited about nano as much being talked about it globaly ,being cheapest and most fuel efficient car..!!!!

Hey guys, I think this discussion is getting a little too heated up! But yes I agree with Jayan, people have this perception about Tata cars being able to handle rough conditions. It is a mental block, when it comes to taxis, that only an indica can be a taxi and not a swift!!

I own a vista myself and i'm very very satisfied with it. It gives me great performance and i have had no problems with aftersales service too touchwood! The Tata company is coming of age with their latest additions like the vista drivetech4 and the manza! Both the cars are doing great and I dont think they lack in their advertising at all! Infact I like the way they are promoting the vista nowadays, That contest to spot the similarity in the earlier versions and this one! Isnt that smart? It makes one realise all the improvements! he he I'm sure a lot of us have tried it...who wouldnt want a free car? rioght?

Another example is their new ad! Its too funny! I love that bald guy with his mouth wide open!! Thats a must watch - http://bit.ly/avqnvI

Its just a matter of time guys, people have a thing for the name maruti suzuki, but the vista drivetech4 will take its rightful place in some time! Peace!
