For 2008-90

Tata Indica(no separate split for vista)= 111253

Swift = 110071

Compared to 2007-08

Indica= -18%

Swift= +24%

BUT Main competition is between Swift DDis and Vista Quadrajet.is nt it?

Vistas are not seen on road in big number even thought it was 8months old,

I guess there was no enough advertising on side of tata is flaw

on more flaw is design and keeping name of Indica

There would be several factorsa few)

the vista looks alike to the indica, especially from the rear

the swift is very well established compared to the vista

resale and service of maruti

image and brand

Personally I think it is an astute move to keep the Indica name - Tata is not thinking just about now or 2 yrs from now but 15-20 even 40 years down the line. They wish to build a brand around "Indica" and that's what they are working toward. Just check out the Toyota Corolla from 1966 or even from the late 80s - nothing like what we have now - but the brand equity of being VFM car has stayed - that is what Tata is aiming for. They will not drop the Indica name for a while if they do have any sense.

Sadly the image that the Indica has for a lot of people is that of the Indicab!(unfortunate but quite well entrenched in the opinion of various strata of people).

It would be illogical to imagine that TATA would not have got word about this, and could have easily given the vista a new name(Vista even) and moved the platform a small segment higher.

Wishing that the brand goes on to be something like what the Corolla has turn out to be as Jvalant has noted!

It was launched 8 months back but availability started gradually thereafter.

hi friends,

Vista started production just 8 months back.  Initially, the sales may not be that much, as people do not know the performance and VFM.  Gradually, the sales will improve.  I think the sales are gradually improving and it is rightly giving competition to Swift.  As rightly said, there is not much advertisement for the car.  In advertising, Tatas really conservative (but not in providing space in the car!).  Tatas should think about advertising, if they want to compete with Swift.

The Maruthi people are known for their after sale service, here they score a lots of marks!  Tatas should also evolve a programme, so that every customer, who purchases a Tata Car should be satisfied even after many many years also, by providing good customer service.  Now a days, customer service (satisfaction) is the main thing in any business.  If the customer do not satisfy with the service, the bad news spreads like anything, which keeps all the good things in dark.
