I might sound stupid, but I can't stop asking this because, there are lot of innovative/good things to learn from others here in the forum.  Also to avoid regret later - Had I known this I would have done like this !!! sort of regret.

I am expecting my I-10 this week end.

I am new to driving, despite having valid licence-no real world practice.  So I want to hang "L" board.  What is the best way to do this. I mean,

1) The placement of "L" signs ( front/rear - left/right ) The right way of doing and the Ideal way based on your experience.

2) Whether any readymade boards, or "Electric Tape in red".  I think many people stick electric tape on the rear windscreen. Is this from Inside or outside (so as to protect the wind screen from damage when finally the L sign is removed).

ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE ?

Second,

Any precautions in sticking the IDOL on the dash-board?  The Idol I have does not have the sticker beneath, to stick. Should I use any adhesive or here also there is any technique or technology ?

Hope you would not mind answering the above!! Thanks in advance.

No, it's not a silly question - very important it is.

You should paste or paint a ‘L’ sign at the back and front of your vehicle in red, on a white background (rule says) - should be visible from distance.

Stick it on the front & rear glasses from outside so that the sunfilms don't get damaged.  Use simple ones (temporary use) - will be available from the shop you get the number plates.

You should be carrying a learner’s licence and should always be accompanied by a person holding a regular licence (the rule says).

Pankaj,

I guess his question is whether he can have a L board even though he has a valid license. Obviously rules will be violated here since there would be no one sitting beside him when he drives.

Beginner,

I have done this myself. Even after getting license, I had the L board for a good 6 months. I did not have an issue. Hope the cops dont mind it. This was ofcourse 5 yrs back

Venkat

I understand but 'valid license' (as mentioned by him) could be either of it - learner or regular (both are valid) Smile

Anyway, if he has a regular license, I don't think there should be any problem in still putting an 'L', as the car can be driven by a learner also (family member) - that explanation should be good enough to the traffic police.  As such, like stated by you, it would be seldom objected to. Like-wise, having no one seated besides him should not cause any problem, as he has a regular license (& L on the car for reason explained).

You can run away by giving the reason as suggested by Pankaj above, if really lucky. But ensure that you do not take the car on Highway with "L" sign. The cars or vehicles on highway are not supposed to be have "L" sign. Its against rules and there is no excuse heard on highway Smile.

Happy Driving.

Hi Dear All,

I am a recent proud owner of a Hyundai GETZ. I am very much new to car driving and I recently cleared the DL test at Bangalore RTO. It may take another 10-15 days for me to get the smart card.

I want to put on the L Board inspite of having a valid DL so that the other drivers drive cautiously. My doubt is that what is the best position of applying the L board sticker? On the front, it is ideal to put it on the left side so that it doesn`t block the vision of the driver. Where should I be putting the board on the backside? On the left / right side of the driver??

Is it valid legally if I stick on a radium sticker??

Thanks and regards.

Yes, as advised by every one it is always better to have L plates on your car for some time till you get confident. Hopefully it scares cars around you and they will keep proper distance.

I am generally scared of cars with L board and car with Lady DriverWink

Sujit,
Even if there is no L board, keep safe distance from Lady drivers. Out from number of events I have seen yesterday, one lady in middle of the road stopped her zen car (pick hours 6.30 p.m.) all of a sudden and was checking his bags for 5 mins. She took fix her seat belt for another 3 mins. and went away..

Till that time, traffic was quizzed...Innocent

I'm sure none of us mean any offence to lady drivers/members Smile Ladies are otherwise better than us in most of the departments Wink

Jokes apart, I have seen some very good lady drivers as well as stupid male drivers.
