Varun, Congrates for the Sonata. Trust me, you have got a good deal. 4.1L for a 15k kms run Sonata is really good deal. What I feel is, Indian used car market is not mature enough and is purely driven by dealers. They are the ones who conclude the value of a car, as per their convenience. Take an example of Sonata, it's a sluggish and highly fuel inefficient car. As you said it rightly, it doesn't worth the price for any aspect. Even the looks you admire is a copy-cat thing. Rich guy try to find a better performing car while middle-class are wary of its fuel economy. Overall, the car is not a tempting thing for anyone and as a result, has a poor resale market. Sensing this, used car dealers try to exploit it. They offer a price too low (even lower than its worth) for a Sonata and sell it at a really high price. The businessmen, just like the one you bought your car from, don't have time to find an individual. They go to dealers who offer them even a lower price. And when an individual like you offer a slightly better price, they sell the car off. What I am telling you is based on my own experience. Here in Mumbai, I have seen several such cases. A bunch of greedy people (dealers) are driving the entire market. This gives loss to many people and benefit to very few like you. As far as Accord is concerned, it's a hot cake in used car market. Come, visit Mumbai sometime. Accords are bought and sold on a margin of as low as 15,000, even by dealers. They are available in plenty.
