Hello fellow-members,

Rules & Guidelines have since been framed/re-written taking in to account all the possible aspects.  It is basically nothing but ‘commonsense’.  The basic idea is to make the forums more organized, clean & meaningful.

Please spare a little time & go through the same meticulously; here the thread is - Rules & Guidelines for participating in the Forum (it will soon be numbered instead of the bullets).

Suggestions thereon, if any, may please be posted here in this thread (that thread is not open for discussion). Please restrict your opinions exclusively to the subject & in a constructive manner.  Please do not put forth here suggestions that would otherwise find place in sections ‘Help us Improve’ or ‘Report a Problem’.

Good & meaningful suggestions will definitely find a place in the rules.  Those will be appended or the existing contents edited suitably, as the case would merit.  We look forward to such constructive suggestions/points.

Soon the Rules & Guidelines will be made sticky to all Sections/Threads.  However, not withstanding the same & the changes it may undergo in the meantime, the rules/guidelines are in force with immediate effect (old thread on Rules for Car Wale Forums stands closed & obsolete now).

Thanks.

- Moderators.

Hi MODs,

Since I am a fairly new participant in the forum, I do not have enough experience to demand / suggest changes / modifications to the existing rules. This is my 1st ever forum wherein I have participated / learned many useful things...Not only about cars, but also about many other general things. I have always appreciated all the efforts put in by all the MODs and other experts.

I have tried to put forth some features which I would like to have here. If the features are already present / impracticable, pls ignore them.

1) Font Option:

I think when we type in the space provided for "Reply to the topic" and then posting it, the font that comes here is Verdana /10 by default. But when we are typing it in a word document and then pasting it here, the result is totally different. Either the font should be made to appear ALWAYS VERDANA / 10, even if you type it in a notepad / word document and paste it here, or an option of changing the font should be made available in the bar.

2) Word Count:

If the limit is specified, as was present before, it would be great help.

3) "Copy" / "Paste" Option:

Sometimes, this option is of a lot of convenience, at times, I had missed it so much here.

{"Do not reply to each post separately. The views may be consolidated in one post itself keeping in view the discussions that have advanced."}

(I couldnot quote two experts in one postFrown)

4) Font Colour Option:

For threads like "Jokes Thread", if we want to post 2 liner / 4 liner jokes, instead of putting a double space to segregate the jokes, the colour of the font could be changed to differntiate. I think a lot of space will be saved by doing this..We will be able to post more 1 /2 / 4 liner jokes in one postLaughing

5) Spell Check / Change Case / Auto Correct Option:

While posting in a hurry, we would not have to bother about spellings, or Caps.

6) Tables Option:

When I wanted to post the details of my findings about audio system, I really missed this option. The table format would have been very helpful & all the more presentable.

7) Email Alert:

This feature is available here to notify the posters of replies to their queries. If an email is sent " By Default" to all the "New" posters detailing the newly framed rules of the forum, the MODs would not have to give a LINK to the "Rules & Guidelines" thread everytime a new post appears.

8)Compulsory Email Id:

Every poster has to provide an Email id before he / she can post here. At the time of registering itself, the above Email can be sent to them, perhaps????

Thought about this when the time for "Editing" had elapsedTongue out. Would MODs pls merge?

9) Who is online?

I had mentioned in a thread previously the need to have some answers on an urgent basis. e.g. some people have holidays on Sat & Sundays. If a query is posted in the evening of Friday, the answers can be read only on the coming Mondayafter logging in.Frown

If a column is introduced to show the members online at the time, the queries could be directed to them by the askers. ( Like in gmail, perhaps??????? )

You/anyone can demand suggest changes/modifications - they are most welcomed.

The suggestions are good (really) but out of place here. As stated in my post above (relevant portion quoted herein below), suggestions/ comments/opinions in this thread should be restricted to Rules & Regulations only.

Sorry this may cause a little inconvenience to you but please re-post (copy/paste, if required through Word) your above suggestions in the thread Upcoming updates in CarWale Forums.

Suggestions/comments, if any, on Rules & Regulations are most welcomed here (in this thread) from you & all others.

I trust you will appreciate the concern, and not take it otherwise. Thanks

 @ Pankaj,

I am sorry; I realized that I had blundered only after I had left for home.

I feel that item #7 & #8 from post #3 are of some relevance here?

So I am copy-pasting items # 1 to 6 and #9 from post #4 in the relevant thread (Link provided by you).

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused. If possible, would the irrelevant posts be deleted from this thread?

Rishita, there's nothing to be sorry about, and it has caused me no inconvenience - for sure.  I'm rather happy to see you take interest in the wellbeing of the forums.

Regarding point 7 & 8, I suggest those too may be posted in the other thread (suggestion), as they are basically suggestions for improvement on functioning of the forums (though pertaining to rules & guidelines).  Here I intend to invite suggestions that can be added / be a part of rules & guidelines framed/posted - I mean, if we have missed something while drafting it.

Please, therefore, post those 2 points also in that suggestion thread - they are good & will invite meaningful discussion.

The posts herein above are not being deleted, as it would serve as a 'message' to others too.

Thanks.

(1) Dear members,  Whenever we welcome any new guys let them give this thread http://www.carwale.com/forums/ViewThread-6785.htmland  and let them  help to familiarize with do's and dont's in Carwale.

(2) I am just going through the thread myself  and update with the suggestions & feedback.

(1) The suggestion of providing link to the newcomers is good but - just an apprehension/possibility... it may give an uncomfortable feeling to someone to be welcomed 'straightway' so. Instead, I would suggest that we give reference subsequently - a little later. Besides, once the rules & guidelines are made sticky on all threads/pages (TAB) or along side the Reply Menu, the purpose will be served well. **

(2) Any suggestions/feedback (on rules/guidelines)? ##

** This too would merit discussion, if any, in the other thread like in the case of Rishita's suggestion.

## Other members are also invited to post their suggestions/feedbacks/comments, if any.

This post is edited subsequently to append the footnotes.

Rens, 'Personal messages' are being implemented as we speak, till then we will have to wait for the respondent to respond in the thread par se.
