Hi All, I am planning to buy a hatch back and its exactly the two cars in the title am choosing from. Trading off the driving comfort in swift to rear passenger comfort in Magna, power in swift to exterior looks/new car fame in magna,  I was planning to pay the extra 50k for magna for the follwoing reason: better Interiors, Integrated music system, tilt adjustable steering wheel. But the below post by someone in another forum shook me:

the interior of magna lacks refinement.....whatever you have liked in the asta's interior is not there in magna....the steering wheel for instance is not wrapped in leather and is not of the same as the asta(the alluminium spokes are not there and without it, the wheel looks very cheap).....its just made of some cheap plastic....the gear knob is of plasic too...unlike asta's leather and chrome(P.S. the chrome gear knob however looks cheap too on asta it looks as hyundai's desperate attempt to make the asta feel a lil upmarket)
and yes one thing which really messed my mind up was the steering wheel adjusting system on the magna.....its just for name sake...unlike the asta whose steering wheel comes into ur lap(that sporty feeling)....magna's adjusts just by a couple of degrees...

Also i read some where that the music system and speakers are of just average quality.

Can you pls advice how far the above statements are true and whether it is still advisable to go for Magna?

Also, I heard the rear AC vents in magna is on seats and it just points to the feet of passengers. Is it true?

Also, does Magna has the 12V socket (laptop charger) that Swift Vxi has? Please advice. Deciding between these two cars really eats my brain Undecided

Bharath,

I own a i20 Magna from last 4 months. In fact I never had any of the complaints as pointed out in the quote. I would agree that Steering wheel tilting is not great here, but how much degrees you need? On the whole its just a matter of personal choice. I would strongly recommend you to go to a showroom and take a decision. We can only suggest on our own perspectives.

Regards

Sumit

Thanks Sumit. Will definitely do. But how is your experience with the music system quality? and how and the rear AC vents and 12V socket?

Music System is okay. Enough for normal driving and occasional loud music. But if you are a rock fan or want some high decibel beats then you might have something less in your hand here. The AC vents are okay, at least better than what you described. But yes I think they could have done a better job there. I haven't used the 12V socket yet, so cant comment on that.

Sumit

Dear Bharath,

I have clocked about 6000 km in my magna i 20 which I brought on the month of May...I totally second to Sumits observations. Magna, Asta or Asta(o), each in its own term is value for money..The wheel cap provided on i 20 magna is of top notch quality and luk..the interiors too are sexy...U can go for Asta if u want added safety like Airbags...no other car in this segement offers such posh interiors which u usualy find in 10 lakh plus category...VFM VFM VFM..tats the buzz word....

Regards

SALIL

i own an i20 magna its been just a month. But you have to get into this car to feel the difference. It definitely gives the feel of a Big car.

I was planning to buy a Swift VXi , then took a test drive of i20 magna and booked it the next day Smile thats it!!

All the talks of cheap plastic are rubbish.. if you want leather look steering wheel you can get a good quality steering wheel cover for 300 rs !!! these are not the points to compare when u buy a car! The wheel cap is of good quality too!

I would also not like to keep the steering wheel in my lap.. Laughing

Regards,

Neil

I hve clocked 8000 km in i 20 magna. some dumbo has made these observations...ignore it...visit a hyundai show room and experience yourself. Magna & Asta are both VFM offerings....go ahead buddy...you already know the negatives of i 20..as you said the ride comfort may not be as refined as swift...be a bit carefull about the ground clearence...you'll get used to it..

Hi,

I own the i20 magna from over 6 months and have clocked 6000 kms. My second servicing is due. Till date the engine is smooth and the mileage is better than what I expected. So if you have roughly 5.5l to spare for a car I would recommend this one.

On the negative, power is one thing I feel at times. May be the 1400 CC would do better here.

Regards

Sumit

Well, I seem to be slightly dated in this discussion...

Request help on these parameters while comparing Swift 1.3VXI and the i20 Magna:

  • Mileage
  • Resale value (speculation in case of i20 resale value)
  • Expense of servicing (Swift would fare better, how much better is the question)
  • Any talks/ thoughts/ rumours on phasing out of the Swift, as it has done >5yrs on road, this would jeopardise my resale plan 2-3yrs hence
  • Engine performance of the two on pickup/ top-speed
  • And finally, Manoeuvrability (tackling heavy traffic) : critical in Mumbai traffic

Will greatly appreciate owners/ experts' responses on the above.
