There are many people who buy diesel cars irrespective of their run/usage.  For instance, Swift Diesel, as pointed out by Binoy, sells more in number than Swift Petrol - not because of the run/usage - but for the fact that Swift Diesel is better than Swift petrol.

Apart from Swift, in most of the cases diesel cars are better than their petrol counterparts.

Hey Everyone, This thread might be dormant but not "Dead", my point still is that if Diesel and Petrol Would be of the same rate,( ie. zero subsidy on both ) then, in that case People would of course go for Swift Petrol and not Diesel.

Yes, according to the current pricing, and subsidy policies of course Diesel Cars would be preferred even if they r not better than their petrol counterparts.

This again will give rise to debates !

So its endless, but its cool.

Bring it On !

Cheers !

In that case too (even pricing of diesel & petrol), I feel diesel car would be preferred - they generally being better (discussed before) & fuel efficient (better mileage).

Swift Diesel is surely a better car than Swift Petrol (I own none of these).

If the subsidies were removed then Diesel would be costlier than petrol(wrt to UAE prices). On top of that the diesel vehicles are already costlier. The diesel vehicles would make almost zero sales.

But if the price of both vehicles are same, then diesel would rock all the way owing to the better FE and torque.

Yes Ami said exactly what i wanted to say.

But Pankaj is too is right to some extent. Even If Diesel cars are more expensive, they are "Better" with the resons already being discussed above. So People who want that "Extra" bit ,without ANY savings would be going for the Swift Diesel, else others would be going for the Petrol Variant.

Ofcourse in India these "if's and buts" are still far from reality.Because Diesel continues to be subsidized and no idea's of bringing about any change is visible as of now.

Cheers

swift petrol just cant challenge disel one dear frnds..  while 0-100km/hr comes in petrol first, i dont know how .. but everywhere i read that  ,  but actually if u r already driving 30 or 40 km/her, then i m sure disel is much ahead of petrol..

actually while sprinting from standstill, petrol makes much of difference in initial pickup.. otherwise n in general, d sudden burst of power that comes in the multijet engine of fiatmade is just awesome. the guys who drive disell engines know it very well..  that torque ,the sudden power that takes us back is only present in disels..    i dont own any of swifts..

so petrol frnds, if u try ur hand on disel engines for 15 days, u will leave petrol engiines for ever.. as i have.

i have fiatlinea disel n volkswagon jetta..  all disel.

i m looking for a smallcar this month..  it will be swift disel just for this mindblowing acceleration n suddent burst of power while driving.. offcourse not from the standstill position

this multijet engine of fiat used in swift is one of the best engines i have seen.. infact ford disel engine is not good n it produces the power linearly...  this multijet produces large amount of power after crossing some 1500 rpm suddenlly

hundai CRDI is also good but it also lacks sudden burst..

i know people with disel swift understand what i m talking about... not petrol frnds.. sorry frnds..

dont go in technial details..  1-100 etc.. , torque...  etc etc..   just drice disel cars for some time.. go back to petrol ones.. n u will kick petrol cars out of ur life..

try it

i just love fiat technology in disel engine

@Subodh: How do you find the linea's diesel engine, don't you think its small for a car like linea, which is heavier than others because of its good built.

It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.

yes anant, it is underpowered, no doubt . its built is so heavy... i have nt seen so much heavy doors like this car has.. actually i bought it because it looked better to me than honda city in build, features n moreover disel engine in lees than 9 lakhs...

this car is not good for city driving.. it feels very heavy n its sound insulation is also not good.. it sounds much more inside. on highways, it has power n u can overtake anyone effortlessly with its sudden pickup..  too good, i just like this thing of disel

 i m satisfied

Hey guys,

I have another point..

Do the diesel owners having a little high feeling themselves, as if their vehicle is more manly or heavy, like an elder brother feel to younger brother...!  Just a psychological superiority feel.

I dont know whether i expressed it correctly
