The q's i have is even though i have a keyless entry ( which should work against thefts i suppose ) do i need to go in for a gear lock as i am worried about the safety of my car.

please suggest me a good gear lock brand and also the its price.

Suraj have you booked i20 already.

I hope it was a typo, wherein you meant i10 era.

Get a remote locking system with immobiliser and body sensor. I think Hyundai max has that. Cost was around 5k. This would do the trick. Gear lock can be avoided.

Reason for suggestion: The car has not yet been delivered. So I think you have an option for changing the security system.

Hyundai gear lock comes at 1600 I suppose. Kartik can help you more on it.

-a car with an immobilizer can still be pushed away(steering lock will open with a duplicate key-or will it?!)

-which the gear lock prevents-so its an added security-but how effective is anyones guess

Gear Lock from Hyundai comes in Beige Color & moreover its installed at the front side of gear.If u get it done from outside(as i did),dey wud stick the rod on rite side of Gear Console.SO it will hinder ur knee resting on gear console.U will feel dis effect during long drives.

I got the gear lock for Rs1100 by Autocops. But the Guy ruined my gear console. Its better get it done at Hyundai Showrum.

Hyundai Max is a security system  for Rs 4500 wid immobiliser facility + the remote wnt affected wid water(as dey say).

U can also ask for Hyundai Cobra dat is 5000+ in cost.I dnt remember its functions

Binoy: I dnt think Steering Lock be opened wid Any other key.But yes wid Duplictae key..InnocentInnocent

I got Autocop gearlock for my i10 today for Rs.1100 (card payment), its beige in color and has been installed perfectly. In fact I went to the Hyundai showroom first but the guy there told me that it is out of stock in showroom and he only suggested I get Autocop installed from outside, he discloed to me that Hyundai too gets it from Autocop, the only difference there is that instead of Autocop its written Hyundai.

-well you have answered the question also-'any duplicate key' will open the lock.

-slightly worn steering locks can be popped by any generic key(from personal experiance)-no-not in someone else's car but in cars in the family! LOL

i think you should use MINDA gear lock for i10. it is an Unique DRILL FREE gear lock.Minda has PATENT for that. There is no need to drill your car chesis. if you use a gear lock with drill (Autocope,Pricol etc) then there are chanses for water entring in your car after some months.
