Hey everyone

Does anybody know when exactly the new Laura will come? I was looking to buy a Laura (base model) in january and can wait if the new model is coming around that time.

Specifically, I'm looking for a car in the 13-15 lacs range for the following conditions:

1.) I would be driving mostly on highways as my work involves lots of traveling.

2.) Sometimes I need to visit areas with bad roads and potholes (pretty much standard in India )

3.) Looking for a diesel

4.) I love to drive myself but would be having a driver most of the times, so is Laura a good driver's car?

Any pointers are well appreciated.

Thanks

Ankur

Ankur,

Please check the link: Jetta vs Laura. I would like to mention that:

  1. For lot of travelling (even though it is highway) diesel car would be preferable
  2. Diesel engine of both the cars are same in displacement & performance. Actually they are the same engine as Volkswagen & Skoda are from the same stable. Only that Laura has 2 valves per cylinder, whereas Jetta has 4 valves per cylinder. So, Jetta engine slightly better. And that Jetta is Turbo diesel whereas Laura is Direct injection.
  3. Both would give decent mileage.
  4. Jetta would be slightly more comfortable for driving with power seats.
  5. Budget wise Laura Elegant / Jetta Trendline would probably be closest in the budget.
  6. Jetta would definitely be more comfortable with great interiors & better rear seat comfort. I guess you would enjoy this. Also Jetta would come with rear 3 head rests.
  7. With 6 air bags Jetta would be more safer too.

I guess you could look at Jetta TDI 1.9 Trendline. This is my opinion and not ownership experience. Do also kindly go in for the test ride.

Jetta would be a better choice.  It has better engine - more cylinders (lungs) & valves (nostrils) & has higher safety features.

-well as both the cars are the same underneath-there is only so much to choose from.

-with the price difference that can be considered significant(even in this price range) i would prefer the Laura.

-dont know why but the mention of 'jetta' brings images of the hatchback to mind!

Both Jetta n Laura share the same engine and performance of both are more or less the same, the Jetta is not very sporty to look at whereas the the Laura is very handsome and stylish , hence prefer the laura!

I Agree with Binoy...Laura is  VFM , Jetta inspite of being around for long now has not been able to win confidance of many due to its price structure... som where you feel VW snob value added to the car....With the current sale numbers seems even resale ewill eb difficult after few years...

This is my personal opinion..

Thanks guys. I personally thought that Laura was more VFM even considering the VW tag. Keep 'em coming.
