Yeah, that was the first thing that came into mind, when I saw 1.2L there..

But when the ANHC can use the same cubic capacity and give more than 150% power / torque using iVTEC and other advances in tuning when compared to the old iDSI, let us not underestimate the 1.2L. Could be tuned different... But then what will happen to HONDA name, and the FE reputation?Undecided

A 1.2L, cost might be almost like i20, good competiton. Hope they also have a 1.4 like in fabia, so that people who want more power can opt for it. In this way they can target fuel efficiency group of ppl as well as ppl who like power!

A super hatch costing near the 6 lac mark should be 'super' in every way possible. Dont know why manufacturers plonk such puny engines in the same cars here while they give quite powerful engine in other markets?

Also dont think many would be worried about FE in this segment!?

I think in that department, they know the Indian mentality... Here every one would want FE, primarily. Add what you want, add all bells and whistles, for which they will carefully weigh cost-benefits, and buy. None of the parameters of the choice are dropped in the process, only added as the car budget goes up. Even Gurpreet would like his intended Accord+ segment vehicle to be good at FE, so why talk of commonfolk?

You are spot on Krishna. Indians always looks at FE first. I personally know ppl who have bought A-star looking at the 19kmpl figure, although the car never suited their requirement.

Honda has always strived to give that and most other manufacturers. Look at the 1.2 engine in Fabia. Underpowering of Linea. etc etc

After FE only we look at bells and whistles (or features & luxury). Then looks. And maybe at the end they would look at how the car performs.

Also the 1.2 engine would give them tax benefits, So that reason must have pushed them for a 1.2.

Today we had a meeting in Standard Chartered Bank in Indonesia. They had kept the new Jazz for display in the lobby of the building.

The cost was 201,000,000 IDR (200 million IDR)

To convert, divide it by 220, the INR cost comes to around 9 Lacs on road.

Further, the engine is the same as NHC and the additional features include ABS + Airbags (front 2) .

Lets see the pricing in India.

The pricing is expected between Rs.5.50 & 6.50 lac - as per analysts (reference: link provided in post #39 of Krishna).

I feel that's quite competitive. But you never know till it's acutally launced/priced.

At slightly higher price and better finish Skoda is able to sell only 180 to 250 cars (Fabia) per month. It will be interesting to see how many Jazz can be soled at this super high prices tag and how Honda justifies 7lak for a hatch.

Considering the 100k capacity of the platform which will be shared by Jazz and City and work halted at Rajasthan site, it will be impossible for Honda to compete with Swift (9K per month) and cut a big pie in this segment.

As the VP Marketing says Honda is exploring an all new category, it will be wait and watch situation for others including many Jazz aspirants
